Feel like it's often conveniently ignored that a 'polarising' opinion doesn't invalidate the opinion.

This really gets to the heart of a lot of the shrieking about this motion doesn't it? For liberals, racism is overwhelmingly an individual failing and to be called racist is beyond the pale ("all Zionists are the same as Nick Griffin!") Racism as power and systems doesn't enter minds

I'm really quite fed up of being an embittered former Corbyn supporter who is absolutely nothing like the straw leftist we're all painted as. It's just so lazy.

The fundamental rupture with the Greens right now is not primarily about people it's about failures of process. Everyone inside the party needs to take responsibility and everybody outside should be expected to do everything but help.

I invite you do notice what *doesn’t* cross a very significant red line. Genocide isn’t even nearly a deal-breaker, politicians can fly out to have their photos taken grinning next to the Israeli PM without a peep. It’s not fully adopting the policies, rhetoric and optics of then National Front.

This call is ambiguous but 'transforming internal structures' should be about deepening and stregthening democracy not controlling it. Thus a leader showing 'leadership' is not forcing their will but facilitating member led change.

The Greens becoming popular has been a disaster apparently. All the same climate and environmental politics are there just no longer in a harmless little fringe party you can pat on the head.

The Greens aren't waiting for Labour to deliver change. We're setting the agenda, holding the government to account and showing why getting more Green MPs makes a difference.

Really feels that from the birth of Twitter, the habit of reading what are usually anonymous posts, by tiny accounts possibly not even run by a human and then using them to make judgments on entire areas of politics has been a net negative, counterproductive use of time.

A perfectly fair and reasonable response. I just hope the party has the internal resilience to accept and continue discussions on difference moving forward (beyond the noise outside).

This is, of course, simply a rhetorical play act. Suppose that people do "condemn" all these people? Well, you didn't do it enough. Did you contextualise anything? Stop that. Be more unequivocal. Now hop on one leg. I found someone not condemning them - do you condemn them too?

Having proportionate criticisms of elements of left politics only for those differences to feel utterly irrelevant in the face of absolutely unhinged attacks from the centre/right is just the cycle some of us can't escape.

Once again, the framing on this sort of stuff is so poor: a) the Labour right have already made clear they’d rather disembowel themselves than share power w the left b) if compromise is impossible, why should the Greens agree to a coalition with the party of genocide support and legitimate concerns?

Absolutely right that political parties should not be hijacked simply for protest causes. But they are still ALSO protest movements. The mantra 'we are not a party of protest' is what has led the Labour Party to a place where it's arresting OAPs for holding signs.

I’m sorry, but this is a fantasy. The *entire point of all this* for ten years has been 1) Absolutely fuck you, the left does not get any kind of power, ever, 2) We will do and say literally anything, whatever it takes, to ensure this never happens and 3) Britain does what America wants, full stop.

Let me try this once more.
It was a choice.
EITHER the Greens adopted a slogan.
OR they could have joined the next govt, where they could push for an end to arms sales, sanctions, support for the arrest warrants etc.
It was never going to be both.
Which one makes a material difference?

Some people here don't seem to have understood the purpose of a political party.
It's not the same as a protest movement.
It is a vehicle designed to get into
government, to change legislation and make a material difference to the lives of people at home and abroad. 2/2

For example, here is Tony Blair lecturing the self-indulgent western left for failing to help millions of Palestinians, from his position on Donald Trump’s panel established specifically to facilitate and finessetheir destruction as a people.
When misguided or malevolently guided activists in Western countries campaign for Zionism to be delegitimized, they do more than cause affront to Israel and to the Jewish community across the world. They harm the Palestinian cause-the very cause they say they support.
Palestinians know Israel will continue to exist. They know that if there were a one-state solution how unlikely it would be that such a state would be Palestinian. What's more, resolutions like the one just passed by the Greens simply provide fodder for those on the far right in Israel, who also believe that Palestinians and Israelis can never live in peace.

And I’d add: while it’s true that this motion has given all manner of political and media shitehawks the excuse they wanted to go apeshit, it’s also true that *they need no excuse*, that they have been going apeshit for at least a decade and that they do it regardless of what anybody says or does.

None of the claims made here are true, but that's beside the point. What matters is the suggestion that certain people should not be subject to purity tests, while others should. For example, raise Palestine and you will be asked if you think Israel has the right to exist.

There has to be one party that doesn't weigh every policy decision on focus group feedback and electoral marketing strategies. Good motions will come to pass that aren't necessarily advantageous to media scrutiny and polling in the short term. That should not become the primary concern.

A party that approaches difficult, fraught issues through open, constructive dialogue is more likely to attract members and voters than one that approaches such issues through proscription and disciplinary procedures. That's also the surest route to the correct, principled outcome on such issues.

For me, these are issues best addressed through open and robust conversations, in which we both speak and listen. They are not issues that should be litigated through disciplinary processes. It is the former approach that is more likely to lead to a durable outcome.
