Today my mother left this existence, quietly and in peace, about five months after her brain cancer diagnosis. I know people always say this but she was such an amazing person. Probably the most generous and compassionate people I will ever know, witty and kind in equal measure.

They both rolled their eyes and one of them said "psh, no, these are Magic: the *Gardening* cards" and they showed me and sure enough they had the layout of old school Magic cards but all the art was of vaguely fantasy-looking plants and bird baths and statuary.

Though technically "north by northwest" isn't a direction; "north northwest" is and "northwest by north" is but "by" modifiers are by convention always cardinals. (That said I forgive the movie this sin against the compass rose on the basis of being one of the most enjoyable movies ever made)
