Applications are invited for a full-time Research Technician to join the Gibbs lab within the Centre for Biological Timing at the University of Manchester. This 3-year MRC funded project takes an integrated approach across murine models and human samples to discover how glucocorticoid hormones direct the anti-inflammatory potential of a specialised subset of immune cells called regulatory T cells (Tregs).

So now we have it- not only the reduction from 12-13 to 3 grants from each board recommended for funding but the budget for applicant-led research to be reduced from £200 million to £113 million per year. This is appalling, Especially given all that is happening with medical research in the US.

Got scans of some slides I took of a Siouxsie gig at the Edinburgh Playhouse in Feb. 1981. I was a fair bit from the stage so these were taken with a low quality zoom lens on Minolta SRT 200 and with me guestimating exposure (Ektachrome 400 film). Great gig. McGeoch was some guitarist.

How Brain Cancer Exploits the Body’s Clock
The circadian rhythm regulates various bodily functions, including sleep and hormone release. Researchers discovered glioblastoma, a deadly brain cancer, synchronizes its growth with these rhythms, exploiting hormone surges like cortisol. Disrupting this synchronization slows tumor growth, suggesting that timing treatments could enhance effectiveness, paving the way for advancements in cancer therapy.

Breath-hold capacities and circadian dive rhythmicity shape optimal foraging strategies in a polar marine mammal, the Weddell seal (Leptonychotes weddellii) - Communications Biology
Antarctic Weddell seals may strategically time their most extreme dives. Seals preferentially did not make their longest dives that push physiological limits at mid-day. This minimized surface time…
