He felt bile rise up in his throat and he drowned it in finishing the drink in front of him and graciously taking his refill. "Yeah, well-" His voice was shaky and he clutched the mug handle for grounding. "Maybe someday, right? Make room at the top for me."
"You know I will." The other man replied, thumbing at his new badge absently. He could feel the poison in the air and shifted, even if he couldn’t identify it. “I’m going to go hit the pool table, wait for a turn. I did some practice table running in high school, I'm pretty good at it.” He chuckled.
“Of course you did.” Tyson murmured, cupping his cheek in one hand, not caring if he sounded annoyed.
“Come join me, then.” Bill smiled, picking up his drink and starting to shuffle away.
“Maybe in a minute.” Tyson shook his head, suddenly frustrated with the fog he felt, biting his tongue back hard even though Bill had already walked away. He was not going to make a scene at a work party.
He felt like he was boiling, gripping the mug in his hands so hard he was afraid it would shatter, switching instinctively to digging fingernails into his palms.
Be fair. He tried to tell himself, to channel some quiet reasonable voice. It’s not his fault, he doesn’t mean anything by it. Not his fault that he’s never had to work a day in his life, that you’re so suicidally headstrong that you make stupid mistakes everyone sees. That you solve all your problems with violence or luck. You were never going to make it here in the first place.
“God, shut the fuck up!” He groaned under his breath, throwing his head back. Okay. Forget being fair.
He grabbed the left-behind bar napkin and a pen, scribbling messily before shoving himself back from the bar.
It was petty. Oh, it was stupid. It would probably get him fired at worst and do nothing at best. No one would listen to a sketchy paparazzo and Bill wasn’t likely to start mad-cackling about the leg up he got from framing his coworkers as incompetent.

Day 2 of #BluePitHype Sorry I'm late but I wanted to share this picture. I'm writing a non-fiction dealing with Korean folklore and myths (surprised that there are many Chinese and Japanese myths available but not many Korean). Korean ones are... hilarious like this tiger smoking a pipe.

This is a Po Soo, traditional hunter and frequent star in Korean folkore, in his full gear. They used old-fashioned flintlocks, whose range was only 60 yards but had no problem hunting tigers. They also wore snowshoes, which you can see dangling from his back. #folklore #WritingCommunity #fantasy

One of the most compelling books I read last year was a book about a wolf dog. Truly his journey felt like an epic fantasy more heroic than many of the man-featuring counterparts. Yes, it was the Call of the Wild by Jack London. Ah-wooooo! 🐺 #books #wolves

One intriguing difference I found as a writer: When I was crafting web novels for Korean readers, the most common advice I got was don’t make the hero suffer. Readers wanted light, easy reads to relax with—zero tolerance for anything resembling “Go Goo Ma.” #writer

I’m a writer who speaks English as a second language. Sometimes words in English sound so unlike what they mean. One of them is “book blurb”. When I first heard the word, it was like blob and slurp and burp combined for me. An author slurping their writing and burping out a blob about it. #blurb
