This is an ancient story, as old as human greed and the wit to subvert it. #korean #folklore #wit #humor open.substack.com/pub/huckkahn...

An image of traditional coins called 'Yup Jun,' featuring square holes in the center for threading. The text overlay reads: 'Chunky Coins for Chewy Chops' and 'Clinking cash for cooking's cloud.' Below, a smaller caption says: 'This is an ancient story, as old as human greed and the wit to subvert it.' The URL 'huckkahng.substack.com' is displayed at the bottom.

Today, I've brought a Korean folktale about fart. A formidable one. #folklore #folktale #mythology open.substack.com/pub/huckkahn...

Fierce Force of Feminine Flatulence: A time-old lesson. Disclaimer: Today's story might be a bit much to people who have a weak stomach for things usually kept behind the toilet door. Don't worry--it's nothing tangible. Not solid, not liquid. Just gas. Just your good old fart.

This is a dire time, folks. However, if we haven’t drifted away too far from the horror of the past, the solution shall also be still in our reach, maybe disguised in some funny folklore from the past. #folklore #Korean #fearnot #writingcommunity open.substack.com/pub/huckkahn...

This is a traditional Korean garment called Doo Roo Mah Lee, a long outer coat worn by men.

This is a picture of a Moo Dahng, Korean shaman. She is wearing a rad hat with long sharp feathers attached to the either side.

This is a scene from a Korean folk painting where a tiger wearing a hat and smoking a pipe is under a tree. On the tree, there are two magpies.

I got accepted to SFWA! Super excited to join a community of fantasy/sci-fi folks. I got in through translating a bunch of novels, but I’m hoping to be recognized as a writer soon, starting with my guide to Korean myths and folklore. Here’s to more writing and learning ahead! #WritingCommunity #SFWA

Day 2 of #BluePitHype Sorry I'm late but I wanted to share this picture. I'm writing a non-fiction dealing with Korean folklore and myths (surprised that there are many Chinese and Japanese myths available but not many Korean). Korean ones are... hilarious like this tiger smoking a pipe.

A tiger with a hat is smoking a pipe under a tree. It looks a bit dumb. Above its head on the branches are magpies, who are looking down at him as if teasing him. This is a traditional folk painting from Korea.

The above picture is from a Korean movie The Tiger, but maybe in real life, they looked a bit more colorful as in this picture by Joon Keun Kim. More on them and other intriguing materials from Korean lore are here: Huckkahng.substack.com

This is a Po Soo, traditional hunter and frequent star in Korean folkore, in his full gear. They used old-fashioned flintlocks, whose range was only 60 yards but had no problem hunting tigers. They also wore snowshoes, which you can see dangling from his back. #folklore #WritingCommunity #fantasy
