Treat biological databases as infrastructure, not projects www.nature.com/articles/d41... We're quietly defunding the infrastructure modern biology runs on. PomBase, FlyBase, HGNC. have faced, or facing, existential funding crises since 2024. Curation expertise, once lost, is difficult to rebuild.

Is healthy ageing possible on a normal diet? Our new eLIFE paper describes metabolic re-engineering of yeast to avoid senescence The A2A mutant we created is super-fit late in life even on a rich high glucose diet… these cells stay healthy until they die! elifesciences.org/articles/111...

Dietary restriction is evolutionary conserved on the phenotypic and mechanistic level - EMBO Reports
The anti-ageing response to Dietary Restriction (DR) is thought to be mechanistically ancient, reasoning from its phenotypic conservation. However, DR is implemented differently across species and evi...

Very excited to share our new Nature study! We discovered that replication stress stabilizes CTCF-dependent chromatin loops enclosing stressed nascent DNA, where G9a-mediated heterochromatin protects it from nucleolytic degradation. rdcu.be/frzLg Huge thanks to all our collaborators and co-authors!

Can anyone tell me why BlueSky (running in Firefox) crops images to be square when I am composing my post? The images display properly when I actually post them, but it makes it really hard to see what my post will look like...

A strong hint from human genetics that changes in DNA methylation may be causal for normal aging. This is the direction that aging (and cancer) research needs to go! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Excited to share our latest paper! We found that large pieces of the human genome can transfer between cells upon direct contact, endowing recipient cells with heritable phenotypic changes. @cp-cell.bsky.social (1/7) www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

Latest paper. We studied ATF4 in ageing in the fly. We find in contrast to previous suggestions that ATF4 suppression rather than activation extends lifespan. The study was largely conducted in an MSc project by Miriam Götz who showed an exceptional drive for science. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

The UK is one of only five of the richest 21 countries to see HLE decline. @ONS reports that healthy life expectancy is falling. BSRA advocates for increased funding in ageing research so we can all live healthier for longer. Dataset in the comments 👇 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

UK healthy life expectancy falls by two years in past decade
Poor housing, obesity and the effects of deprivation have been suggested as underlying cause.
