The burden of work on GPs has become absolutely enormous and is totally unsustainable. I don’t think the public at large have the slightest comprehension of how much work GPs do and the stresses of the job.

GPs are drowning in patients’ online requests for advice, after last year’s commitment by the health secretary that all online queries would receive a same day response. Hospitals now face the equivalent, as specialists are being overwhelmed with advice requests. www.bmj.com/content/395/...

To be fair LLMs can string together coherent sentences. It might be argued that is super intelligence by someone who can’t do those things.

Dan Niedle did a very good thread on it.

It’s a monumentally dumb idea.

When all the conjectures have been proven or disproven who will come up with more? Who will have learned anything from the trying and failing or succeeding in proving them?

Yes. Very much enjoying learning. In danger of shifting to obsession. Old age already an issue.

I can only claim about a year of climbing but, if your technique is poor enough, that’s more than enough time to ruin it I can attest.

Kemi Badenoch wants to exempt the family home from inheritance tax. But that creates a perverse incentive for elderly people to *upsize* to save IHT. That could double the cost of the policy, and push £100bn+ from savings into housing. A 🧵 on bad tax cuts.

We don’t know what the underlying model (gpt-4o) is doing. I’d be very interested if a pure LLM with no specialisation could start to identify abstract concepts like addition but I’d be absolutely amazed if it happened. It seems very unlikely.

Jon Horrocks @horrocksjon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The current models are not simply LLMs. It remains a sound metaphor for an LLM.

Speaking as a toon fan I am, though I have genuine sympathy for city fans, who are not responsible in any way.

They need to sell as many players as they can in January. Results are now irrelevant for them. They are about to lose almost all their revenue overnight.

It’s fairly clear their plan is to try and frustrate the process as much as possible. As an aside this is hilarious: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...

I think city are toast and that is unfair on the fans. It’s hard to see how the club survives.

I was wondering this. The only thing I can imagine (no idea if I’m right) is the evidence was essentially uncovered by hacking. Would that make it inadmissible in a criminal trial?

Suspect they have delayed a long time in order to write a judgement that is as appeal proof as they can manage. City will still appeal but don’t want to leave them open goals.

The punishment needs to be huge but a football club is much more than players, coaches trophies…. It’s a community. Whatever happens that community should be preserved. I have little sympathy for coaches and players to be honest. They knew what was going on.

I have zero doubt they will try and tie everything up in a lengthy legal battle. That’s clearly their intention. But the PL seem to actually be taking their responsibilities seriously, which is a genuine surprise, but is quite encouraging.

Jon Horrocks @horrocksjon.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Failed to properly disclose fees paid. Failed to properly disclose payments to players and managers. Created fake sponsorships to inflate revenue streams and then obstructed the investigation. I believe those are the basics of the charges.

Tony Blair doesn't seem to acknowledge the economic gains we'd get from rejoining an entirely unreformed EU. Maybe 5% boost to income per head, in perpetuity. We shouldn't do that because it's not worth it unless the EU acquires other nebulous characteristics?

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

I want my country back. By that, I mean a country where I would be confident that a thug who livestreamed himself stabbing an RNLI dingy on an active operation would a) Be universally condemned b) Be swiftly arrested, put on trial and if found guilty, face many years in jail. I miss that country.
