The mutational dynamics of the Arabidopsis centromeres - Nature
Centromeres in Arabidopsis thaliana evolve through frequent insertions and deletions of repeat units and increased rates of point mutations driven by homology-directed repair, a mutation spectrum that is sufficient to generate and maintain large homogenized tandem-repeat blocks.

Brazilian beak-sedge reproduces through pollen, fertilization and seeds, but its surviving offspring are genetic clones of their mothers. More than 10,000 pollen nuclei showed no DNA crossovers. doi.org/hcjqf3

Brazilian sedge reproduces sexually but without DNA reshuffling, producing genetic clones
Sexual reproduction usually reshuffles genetic information, creating offspring that differ from their parents. But one small plant takes an unexpected route.

Feedback must be filtered. Too much positive feedback (e.g. from your closest circle) will make you overconfident and hyped. But pure negative feedback will make you question your basics, without giving you space to elaborate. Find the balance and don't get overwhelmed!

Last week was a great experience to participate at the MBP2026 in Hennef. Great talks (mostly trainees!) and posters, and great networking. I got to know a lot of supportive professors, willing to provide opportunities, explore ideas and give great feedback. So cool! #MBP2026

I recently worked with @amarques.bsky.social to make illustrations and finalize figures for three scientific publications focusing on the evolution and function of holocentric chromosomes I can also help you illustrate your research with effective figures, graphical abstracts, and infographics 🧪🐡
A scientific illustration showing the life cycle of a plant Rhynchospora tenuis

Figure caption:
Life cycle of Rhynchospora tenuis (i.e. PECP-48 genotype) under achiasmatic meiosis.

Schematic representation of the R. tenuis life cycle (2n = 4). Both male and female meiosis occur without crossovers (achiasmatic inverted meiosis). Male gametogenesis is asymmetric, yielding a single functional sperm nucleus and non-Mendelian segregation. Fertilisation restores the diploid state with intact haplotypes, but only heterozygous seeds develop into viable embryos, ensuring faithful restoration of the highly heterozygous parental genome each generation.
