A wonderful, likely Italian, 13th-century Latin grammar fragment. The author remains unidentified, but the text reflects Priscian's influence and references Aristotelian ideas. Once part of the Marvin L. Colker Collection, it was sold at auction recently and is now in a private collection.

Will be being annoying about this one for a while. I'd love to see it read by people working on histories of the book, reading, annotation, marginalia (as well as education and language) -- I try to use lots of surviving copies of Mauger to think about who read him and how.

First acq of book fair week from the fair itself: 2 issues of ᏣᎳᎩ ᏧᎴᎯᏌᏅᎯ / Cherokee Phoenix. Printed in New Echota, Georgia, this is the 1st newspaper printed in the U.S. in an indigenous language. Joins several other early examples of the Cherokee syllabary in our holdings. Now BPL pb.2023.76.

One of the interesting features of Galmace’s grammar, is the inclusion of a parallel Spanish phonetic transcription, accompanying the parallel Spanish and French translations throughout the book.
