I have always understood these foam lines to be caused by the interaction of different bodies of water, fresh river water and denser saltier sea water in estuaries. The water moves in different directions and causes natural foam along the boundary, like clouds forming on a weather front.

Look at this graph. The share of national income going to the richest 10 percent was lowest (and share to lower 90 percent highest) when union membership was at its highest. As unions have weakened, inequality has widened. This is why we must build back union power.

Companies consider what they do with profits after tax. They can then invest in R&D, re-tooling, training, wages etc. Which can improve products and productivity. Most listed companies use the profits for dividends and share buy-backs - and Exec salaries and bonuses. Late Stage Capitalism
