NEW: The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is becoming more important as Japan ties language proficiency to residency requirements. The problem? The test is in such high demand that there aren't enough seats for all the test-takers.

JLPT Seats Are Running Out as Japan Ties More Visas to Japanese Tests

Just as the government is adding Japanese-language requirements to certain visas, the twice-yearly JLPTs are getting seriously crowded.

Far in the future, far across the galaxy... It's was a tall order to cram a portion of space opera epic The Five Star Stories into a single 66 minute OVA (Sunrise, 1989). Urusei Yatsura's Kazuo Yamazaki gave it his best though, bringing to life from manga pages this world of mysticism and mecha.

A still from the bluray release, with a busy Phantasy Star IV-alike city scene with Ladioss Sop, a femme-y guy with long chestnut blonde hair resting casually resting on a floating bulbous bike with middle eastern-ey citizens around him

A pristine blue sky and clouds, with beams of light cast down the Greek mythology inspired scene of extravagant white robed figures in a line and a young woman approaching them.

A bulky mecha in closeup with pilots disembarking

One of my favourite shots from the OVA, a tall techie tower structure in a barren desert wasteland, with a wooden sign pointing in all directions close to the camera. All beneath a burnt orange-yellow-blue cloudy sky.

I find it fascinating how "anime-inspired art style" used to have a lower bar to popularity back in the day when social media was more segregated by region. Finding a westerner who's art felt authentic to the style was rare. Now you compete with actual japanese artists so you have to "get it".

Okay a tiny thread because people are going to freak out: This exploit in particular takes advantage of a special command that renders images (via attribute escape). If you have an overlay that processes images (most don't) then yes, this is your problem. Overlay must explicitly create img DOM.

A picture of the exploit, using a command that explicitly includes an image file extension, but also would escape out of the src attribute of an image such than an onerror attribute can be added to the img tag. This onerror attribute can run explicit javascript immediately.

Default behavior for most chat widgets is if you have an image it will not attempt to modify image links into actual HTML image tags. Your overlay/overlay service must explicitly be doing this for you.
