I'm a foster parent, and a ruling that basically states that DCYF is not allowed to set standards for foster parents should terrify everyone. The ruling is narrowly about trans identity, but they really opened Pandora's box there.

I'm a foster parent here. This will have ramifications far beyond the gender identity issue, mark my words. Nothing about this is okay.

I backed the car up onto the curb twice during parallel parking, didn't look behind me during the backing up part, and pretended I didn't hear them when they told me where to park at the end because I knew I couldn't get into the spot without hitting anyone and they gave me my license.

I want to stage a protest where we just stand and drink tea in the middle of the road.

I feel like there were similar discussions about stop consolidation when the H line was implemented. We ended up with pretty frequent stops, at least along Delridge. Hopefully the R Line can follow that example.

Google anything is less accurate by the day. Maps told me to drive through the Puyallup Fair (decided the walkways inside were streets) and directed me to "use the exit" (no number) in half a mile. It's a mess.

I just can't even imagine walking, rolling, or driving down Aurora and thinking to myself "This is great! Every square inch is perfection and we should keep everything the same here forever."

Without one stuck to the floor there you could buy your own island with locking casters that has built in options like drop-down sides to make bigger/smaller as needed, and the ability to roll it off to the side when you have guests over and want a more open space.

It's the same here in Washington. If someone calls CPS on you for giving your teenager a gun, DCYF will give you a lock box and ask you nicely to lock it up. Children's Hospital does events to give away these lockboxes for your suicidal teens.

Starbucks closed the location in the outpatient wing of Seattle Children's because they unionized. Solid line of business from open to close, for whatever local coffee place wants in on that. Medical parents need caffeine!

Seattle negotiated a deal where the Key was redeveloped with 100% private money while still owned by the city, and part of the lease agreement is a portion of profits from the arena come back to the city for the general fund, with a floor of $25 million. It can be done.

Long COVID is career ending for singers and dancers. Short COVID ended the career of at least one opera singer I knew. But even more important, a relative never regained her sense of taste and now she can't enjoy tacos. Everyone with COVID is risking never enjoying a taco again.

If you can afford that house, you can afford to enlarge the garage door openings in a way that honors the original architecture and not just outright replace them with a generic monstrosity.

I'm American and it varies wildly depending on what part of the country you live in. Down south I had a lot of folks at church praying for my soul because I was one of the devil's children.

The sectors that are actually growing are health care and social services. Social services is dominantly female, as well as nursing. Coupled with the decline in industries like construction which are dominantly male. No concerted effort to employ women, I think it just shook out that way.

The folks in West Seattle trying to say that they can never visit the senior center again because too old/mobility limited, when parking with a disabled permit is free and this plan will create MORE close, free parking for people with limited mobility.... I just can't.

If you can work with sheet metal and run duct work, you will never want for employment. Electricians are needed, HVAC is needed even more, and 90% of the guys that actually know how to work with sheet metal to run new ducts are retiring. It's a skill that is REALLY needed.

If you REALLY want to compete with Trunk-or-Treat, we need more ADA ramps. We do the trunk or treats because our street is too hard to navigate with our child's mobility device. 😞 But thank you for the permits.

That's interesting. With the Workday overpayments, my understanding was that workers from other unions who had no CBA language about overpayments only engaged the union if challenging the overpayment amount, otherwise they still paid it back, per law. Is every SPD officer challenging it then?

We also had these gantries for hanging light plots that we moved by holding onto the i-beams overhead and kicking the rails with your feet so if you kicked too hard the bridge would move from under you and you'd be hanging 30' in the air with no fall arrest gear. Oh, college.

When I was in college, our campus box truck had this rope in the back for students to hang onto when we rode around campus with the door up, so we didn't fall out going up hills with like 30-40% grade (Seattle).

I've learned not to plug in or put batteries in anything from Dollar Tree. We've had like 3 different toys malfunction and overheat (and as I type this, yes, I should probably start reporting them).

I use this guy. Does it chop the garlic evenly? No. Is it easy to use? No. Is it easy to clean? Also no. But man it's cute.
Plastic vampire garlic chopper, top half is rounded vampire head with black pointy hair line and white "skin", facial features, and teeth. Bottom half is all black and shaped to look like a wavy cape, with a small collar at the top.

And the complaints about parking. Apparently poor people can't afford luxuries like taking the bus to work or biking, so we are catering to the elite by building apartments without minimum 2 spaces per unit.

I have a child with a disability and the biggest barrier to taking the light rail is the lack of ADA ramps and clear sidewalks in my neighborhood.
