Hey comics people, friends & colleagues. As of today, our friend @artyomtopilin.bsky.social is under house arrest in his home town of Tolyatti due to ongoing FSB investigation. We don't have much details yet, but his computer and phone were taken by the police, so communication with him is hindered.

🦋 Cover Reveal!✨ So excited to finally share the cover art I created for • Year’s Best Arthropod Short Fiction Vol. 3 by Hexagon Magazine • @hexagonmagazine.bsky.social 🎨
Cover art I created for • Year’s Best Arthropod Short Fiction Vol. 3 by Hexagon Magazine • - Cover is a rectangle of a symmetrical detailed mirror half drop repeat pattern inspired by arts and crafts era wallpaper. In the middle section is a dragonfly facing down from overhead with paper wasps facing outwards above over top of branching leaves. Below and above is the central repeated motif of a large leaf insect from above framed by lace wing butterflies turned outward and stag beetles facing inward. Surrounding and underneath all of them are stylized leaf branches with round large berries. The entire pattern is in intense ochre yellow and mahogany brown shades with pops of pale yellow for the berries. Over top is a handmade paper texture and fine line ink work in brown and pale yellow for threadbare highlights on the wasp and butterfly wings.

Anthologies are one way small magazine publishers help bridge the gap in their finances, and a great way for you to enjoy the work their authors have been producing if you don't have time to keep up with monthly/quarterly issues. Give this one a buy. Makes a great holiday gift, too!

Below is the start of a rhino beetle, to the left is the bottom of the body of a leaf bug, to the right is the body of a paper wasp. Rough day, so have a poem about the Jar of Moles in the Grant Zoology Museum in London that everyone has regarded as too thoroughly batshit to publish
Jar of Moles (Grant Zoology Museum, London)
crittery dozened things each pink snout snootling
formaldehyde up it's bamboozler which poor fuck
had to collect them out in the dirt with a shovel
here moley moley BONK . I’m only gonna
put you in a jar and let tourists go eww at you
for the next two hundred years god look at me
for two hundred years I’d do anything look
mummy, one of them’s licking the glass—
honey it's dead velvety sweet sardined hope
their ghosts are friends teeming in a molish
afterlife dark and circular everything worm-
flavoured tasty buggy snackerels what if
you smashed the mole jar? vinegared
moles spilling out flaccid & swimming
everyone screaming someone saying Freddy
you gotta get us a new jar of moles—
—goddammit boss I never asked for any of this
A jar of wet preserved moles, the jar is very full and all the little hands, feet and snoots mark it as both upsetting and fascinating
