Good book! I've been thinking that I'm due for a re-reading of it. re 2. oh my, that brings up a lot of feelings. I've been re-connecting with my 90 yo father and letting most bygones be bygone, but his grieving for the wife he married 9 mos after my mom died does stir up some difficult feelings.

Only thing I know our school district did this with H1N1 (2010?). IIRC docs didn't have the vax so K-12 was done at school, adults had a pop-up clinic at the mall, had to take my preschooler to public health dept. Dont know if other places did this but we have a kickass local PHD.

Yeah, that's what I thought and then Summer jumped back up like the lady in Fatal Attraction. Today was 88 degrees with humidity so high we turned on the A/C after weeks without. Soup dreams have been postponed.

This! People keep saying "The State” but it is human beings who are carrying out the killing and torture. The argument that a person who tortures deserves to be tortured herself overlooks the person tasked with torturing her. Even a righteous killing damages a person and torture even more so.

My parish is generally pro-Pope and brags about being “multicultural” but no mention about mass deportation and detention (that would be *political*!) or whether any of our many immigrant parish family members might be living in uncertainty or even fear.

Happy Anniversary! I often don’t remember until late but we forgot it completely this year. A couple of weeks later I said, “Oh, didn’t we have an anniversary…?” You’d think the fact that it generally falls on the spring equinox would be a help in remembering but you would be wrong.

to some extent. No plastic surgery but she did keep her "young" hairstyle. Did she go gray? Also, IIRC, because of her father's obesity she was so strict about her eating that she did not keep food in her home. So despite my appreciation of her, haven't really seen her as a model for relaxed aging.

I almost walked into it when I saw it in person 40+ years ago. I came around a corner and instinctively walked towards its glow as if it were an open doorway – lucky the rope was there! I was familiar with it from the board game “Masterpiece” but had no idea it was so big! Amazing painting.

The only reason I was able to read all of Middlemarch during a busy time almost 40 yrs ago was because my bus ride to work was 45 min each way. (Then alas a new coworker started who took the same bus and it seemed unfriendly to insist on reading when she badly wanted to talk.)

Reminds me of the time I got an audio book on Libby, listened to a chapter or so, then returned it. I checked it out again a year later. Libby analyzed my reading speed and concluded that if I kept listening at the same rate, I could finish the book in about 16 years.
