I'd be interested in how, exactly, it almost caused a war. Intelligence, hallucinated or not, does not trigger action. A decision maker (officer) has to decide to read that Intelligence and initiate plans based on it. "US Navy almost starts war with China" would be a correct description here.

The best way to start a jour de manif is to wake up having already won the day. With the late-night smashing of Montreal's A.I. research hub and its "responsible A.I." facade on the eve of yesterday's ALL OUT demonstration, the burgeoning local fight against the A.I. hell world showed that autonomous, decentralized action amplifies the strength experienced by coming together in large numbers in the street.

The demo was a maelstrom of creative resistance. Armed with hand-painted signs, banners, costumes and papier-mâché, over 500 marchers succeeded in severely disrupting traffic around the Palais des congrès just as the day's program concluded and ALL IN's tech yuppies filed into their miserable 5 à 7.

Give a police force a near-limitless arsenal of terror and coercion, and they will use it any chance they get. Once again after a demo, media feeds are filled with images and stories of pepper spray, tear gas, and beatings at the hands of the SPVM. A riot cop is on video threatening to gouge a brave arrestee's eyes out. These accounts are important to share. But we needn't forget that among the functions of police brutality is to immobilize us before the spectacle of state power. Scroll, shop, vote.

It's in part through encountering one another, challenging our ideas of what is possible, linking arms and helping each other up, that we build the strength to truly say no to the non-world they are building, to act to create and extend moments of freedom.
