Mantissa thinks her name is Hibaby

I am just hearing this now for the first time.

000

Well if you’ve got a feeling. Bet it all

Thank you, I assumed as much but didn’t want to misstep in the eyes of the horse-knowers

Don’t do it! Neither the real Fanny nor Fanny The Horse want this for you.

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 13h

I'll be honest, I have no idea what this means.

Speaker Announcement
Marian Wilson Kimber
Keynote Speaker

Marian Wilson Kimber
Marian Wilson Kimber, Professor of Musicology at the University of lowa, has been writing about Fanny Hensel and the issues surrounding women composers for over three decades. Her 2002 article, "The Suppression of Fanny Mendelssohn: Rethinking Feminist Biography," continues to be widely read. Wilson Kimber's scholarship has treated Das Jahr, Hensel as a travel writer, and her position in the writings of the American suffrage movement. Her article about nineteenth-century band arrangements of Hensel's Gartenlieder led to performances of them by the Prince Regent's Brass in England. Wilson Kimber has spoken about Hensel and her music in Germany and Korea, and been quoted in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal on women composers' careers.
Wilson Kimber's research into women's roles in American musical life appears in two books, The Elocutionists: Women, Music, and the Spoken Word (2017) and Clubwomen Activists and the Making of American Music, forthcoming from the University of Illinois Press. She currently serves as the editor of the Journal of the Society for American Music and contributes to the blog, Women's Song Forum.

The house is reconfigured for some emergency repairs and Mantissa is flying all around the house at a gallop in full freakout mode because things are not Where They Should Be.

Did I mention I’m narrating a concert on Oct 6 with Orli Shaham & the Juilliard String Quartet “In Clara’s Hands”? Should be an excellent time if you’re in/near NYC! www.kaufmanmusiccenter.org/mch/event/or...

Yeah later on they’re referred to as the daughters of the Rhine… just like, nature ladies

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

No, definitely! is it extremely about capitalism, industry, class struggle, etc. I have a hard time imagining an interpretation where that wasn’t a theme

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Ok that makes sense. I noted the miners’ hard hats with headlamps and got the Worker theme

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Yes the home renovation subplot seems so mundane. I was expecting all-powerful cursèd rings and immeasurable wealth corrupting even the gods, but quibbling with contractors?

Love the scene with Alberich threatening his workers while tied up

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Is Mime a particularly skilled worker? Since he made the helmet and Alberich says he can make another? Also is Mime Alberich’s literal brother?

210

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Like, Mime seems to be very sympathetic as an exploited worker? But the characterization is unmistakably offensive. I can’t tell what we’re supposed to think about him.

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Sorry, I might be a fan of Alberich?

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

I know that Alberich is bad, but I sort of like him? Am I problematic?

henselpushers @henselpushers.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Was definitely thinking this. Especially when he broke out his staff…
