Interestingly, Marx does not seem to think surplus-labor and exploited labor are synonymous. Surplus-labor will continue under communism, rather than considering it expanded necessary labor. Or maybe these terms start to break down in meaning outside of class society.
This is also the only portion of surplus-value and surplus-product, and thus of surplus-labour, which would continue to exist, outside of that portion serving for accumulation, and hence expansion of the process of reproduction, even after the abolition of the capitalist mode of production. This, of course, presupposes that the portion regularly consumed by direct producers does not remain limited to its present minimum. Apart from surplus-labour for those who on account of age are not yet, or no longer, able to take part in production, all labour to support those who do not work would cease.

Laser-focused on making people's lives worse to distract from their own failure.
Upston explained the proposed 2028 Jobseeker cuts would apply to some beneficiaries suffering from health conditions but said it would not apply to those deemed unable to work like those battling cancer.

Next month, an estimated 4300 18- and 19-year-olds with parents earning more than $65,000 will no longer be able to access the Jobseeker benefit under changes from the coalition Government.

In July under questioning from Green MP Ricardo Menedez-March in the House, Upston acknowledged about 1800 of them had a psychological or psychiatric condition.

Upston and Luxon fronted the policy announcement in Kapiti this morning.

Asked if he would be open to MPs facing random drug tests, Luxon said he was “fine” with it but clarified it wasn’t National policy. He acknowledged he expected such a question following today’s announcement.

Luxon suggested he was open to funding more places in rehabilitation if demand increased as a result of the alcohol and drug assessments.

If you really want to get "more people off welfare and into work", consider not tanking the economy. That typically works better than performative cruelty.
The party also promised:
to provide "intensive, work-focused support" for 30,000 jobseekers who have been on Jobseeker for more than a year, with more funding for employment programmes that support young people into work.
lowering the rate of payment for those who had been on the benefit for two of the previous three years, from 1 April 2028. There would be a smaller reduction for households with dependent children.
those who repeatedly leave employment without good and sufficient reason would face a 26-week non-entitlement period, up from 13 weeks.
from 1 April 2028, the minimum residence period to qualify for main benefits will increase from two years to five years.

Last month @paulapenfold.bsky.social wrote this excellent piece interrogating a NZF candidate's disinformation about abortion. Today the leader of that party quite clearly shared the dogwhistle version of that rhetoric unchallenged. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...
From Penfold's article:

Mundt said the abortion legislation had been "shrouded in controversy".
"It was passed just as the country was going into covid lockdowns," she wrote,
"so the focus of the nation was divertedẠại
She said NZ First had "put forward a conscience vote" and its MPs voted against the bill at its third reading.
"Their (sic) is NO upper limit to the age of a baby being aborted. If two practitioners agree, a baby can be killed right up to the day of birth," Mundt continued. From Peters' interview today:

Asked about abortion, Peters said "the facts" were worth revisiting.
"At its worst, and it's a matter of timing, but it shades into a thing called murder. You got me here?
"It shades into a thing called murder or assassination, get any name you like. But that's the purpose. We've got to know the facts."

This naturally ties in with decolonial efforts. Many socialists understand it is wrong for, say, England to rule over India, seeing the need to break up this power. They might even want to break off Scotland and Wales. They have been less supportive of the need to break England itself.
