I Hijacked a Real Artist's Spotify with AI Music. It Was Disturbingly Easy
A glaring loophole in digital music distribution makes it very easy to piggyback on the talent of real artists with AI generated music.

A must read thread for anyone thinking about the socio-cultural and economic effects of generative AI. Huge thanks to Tuhin & his fellow researchers for their amazing work here. And as Tuhin notes, there are significant legal implications given the clear market dilution resulting from AI content.

CA Bill 2013 requires a developer of a genAI system to post a high-level summary of the datasets it used for training. xAI argues that the Constitution forbids California from requiring such disclosures. This excellent amicus brief from the AI Coalition for Data Integrity responds to xAI’s claims.

It takes willful blindness & an impoverished sense of morality to suggest the nonconsensual corporate strip mining of our creativity to build AI machines is in anyway fair. Essentially like saying that Renee Good was killed in self defense. It takes ignoring reality. So perhaps we shouldn’t do that?
