Peak Seattle weather brings peak Seattle traffic; ergo, @blowdart.me likes traffic.

Our 1.0-beta.1 release of the Rust SDK for Azure Cosmos DB is out. We're considering this a release candidate for a 1.0 release coming soon - give it a spin and let us know if you run into any issues. #CosmosDB crates.io/crates/azure...

I’ve been SSH-signing for years—via a signing key in 1Password for the past couple. The only poor UX I’ve seen is in the git CLI itself. Some signature parameters don’t work with SSH signatures despite having all the right settings configured but you sorta get used to it.

For me it’s about managing cholesterol more than anything. Current science—and it holds true in my case, at least—is that the cholesterol you make is worse than the cholesterol you consume; though, I watch that a little too.

Thanks! Not bad. I’ll have to add that to the list. Finding healthy snacks on a low-(added) sugar and low-saturated fats diet is hard in this country. Almonds, dried chickpeas, and dried natural mangos have been staples for several years but have kept the weight off along with lots of exercise 🚴‍♂️

How are they on sugar or saturated fat (from the additives , of course)? They do look pretty.

Lights were flickering, but only on one smart switch. Took the faceplate off to check for a loose connection but jiggling it around didn’t repro the flicker. 😕 Wondering if there’s a bad controller in that switch. Sometimes it just dims and turns off by itself. Only 3 LED lights on that switch.

Today our first little bird leaves the nest for college. 🥲 She was organizing some of the stuff into the living room and we made sure to pack her favorite chew toys including her Kong.

But I agree with another poster that the stop signs along the BG need to be for the couple of cars a day vs the dozens of bikes. Same for UW: they tell BG traffic to stop for cross-traffic from walkers on “tributaries”. What’s up with that? Like telling highway traffic to stop for country roads.

That pic is from the article. The point I was getting at is that the stop sign is a yield sign for us, yes, but cars don’t have that. I was hit by a car as a kid. I’d rather not chance it again. But if there are no cars coming bikes don’t have to stop there on 520. I’ve biked that dozens of times.

Stop signs are yield signs for bikes in WA. If it’s safe to cross without stopping you can do so but if cars are coming they still have right of way. Most people seem nice enough to wave cyclists through. Same along the Burke-Gilman in many places. I tend to slow and make sure.

We connected to a TV in a meeting room today as well as my laptop so I could share my screen. Meeting concluded and I disconnected. Few minutes later, someone comments, “The empty meeting room is still in the meeting.” 🤦‍♂️

Replaced my older #UniFi nanoHD (WiFi 5) with the U6+ (WiFi 6). The mounting plate was the same so it was a quick swap and adoption. New scan of the upstairs has me thinking I may not need to install the nanoHD in the living room. Might try out the AP upgrade by itself for a while.

I wish we had more roads crisscrossing our mountains like in Europe. There’s a federal proposal but I can only expect this administration to exploit them, so no.

Well, maybe better. You’ve done the no-car day up Hurricane Ridge, right? Maybe it is better coming down without scared drivers or encroaching cars. Dropping down that high climb I saw maybe one car coming up. Still, the switchbacks make it fun!

The next day I started in Varenna winding up an 8,100’ climb to start the day. That pic is from the top. The descent was…transcendental. Way better than Hurricane Ridge.

Nor does mine, but I did put them on e-bikes up Ghisallo while I rode my Bianchi road bike I rented that matched my road bike in specs. Road trip?

Did you get an opportunity to go cycling? It’s amazing: drivers respectfully go around you and don’t honk. It’s surreal! The views above Lago de Como were spectacular! I want to go back and do the Stelvio. It was a bit too far from the family’s chosen route.

Did you take the steep climb toward the other Cinque Terra? Did it with the family one day, then a few times myself the next. Met a lovely Danish couple and enjoyed a chat on the way up once. They started from the far other end. I’d love to go do the whole thing.

I mean, technically all stop signs are yield signs to bikes anyway. I think I've only stopped at this intersection once and I've ridden it dozens of times. Also: lack of bollards is even more frightening after the I-90 "incident". I appreciate they can be a hazard, but these are atop a hill.

I dont think I’ve ever heard of these, but thanks to these posts, I noticed a fruit stand on my ride today selling them. No place to carry any home, but at least I knew what a “quince” is when I saw it on a sign.

I’ll believe it when I see it. It’s been almost a week and the indexing percentage hasn’t budged on any of my #Apple devices. Tier 2 support acknowledged it’s a known issue but Apple is otherwise mum. Most devices stay plugged in on WiFi but it drains my phone pretty quickly when not. 😡

It’s not Italy 😔, but Snohomish County cycling has its charms. Arlington had an art walk I spent some time in while enjoying my almond milk mocha. ⛽️

Yeah, I’m getting a real… Apple: Things just work! Dev: But I found a Apple: THINGS. JUST. WORK. …vibe. And to be fair, the majority of the time they do just work! That’s why I jumped into the Apple ecosystem after so many years. But lack of comms is annoying.

#UniFi travel router arrived! 😍 Also ordered another puck. Living room/kitchen doesn’t have great coverage. Too much solid interference from the puck down the hallway that provides coverage for the bedrooms. Should’ve installed it when that ceiling was open for the remodel. Harder install now. 😔

I'm starting to think that, at least temporarily, I may just block my iPad from mail hosts and see what happens. Of course, given the lack of robustness I've seen from logs, I'm not sure that won't make the situation worse.

Heath Stewart @heaths.dev · 19/09/2026
Their silence is frustrating. Being new-ish to the Apple ecosystem, is this normal? Or is this a case of: for normal consumer scenarios they're just fine, but when you start to peek behind the curtain you'll just be disappointed?

Heath Stewart @heaths.dev · 19/09/2026
But if you're right, @jasonmalinowski.bsky.social, #Apple is potentially going to cost a lot of their consumers $$$. Watching my iPad that basically sits around doing nothing most times, it's already downloaded ~3GB since this afternoon. I'm on fiber now, but Comcast Cable would be charging soon.

macOS doesn't show status, so I wrote a script that spits out a CSV. Works great with `xan` to view, sort, and filter CSV: ```sh brew install xan indexing-status -o- | xan sort -RNs complete | xan view ``` Saves date-named files by default: no change in hours. 😡

I have mail configured to only cache the last month. But mail goes back to before Microsoft bought HoTMaiL, and I have many GBs of pictures in my "SkyDrive camera roll" on OneDrive, showing how old that is. Only a small album is cached locally.

Windows Indexing Service, Search, or whatever is current this iteration is so much faster even after re-indexing from scratch. I wanted to press for details about what Apple knows, but figured the tier 2 engineer wouldn't know nor could share if he did have more info.

Based on an article from Apple, it's not supposed to but I've suspected that as well. But my UniFi status for SSL/TLS hide a lot—obviously—but the amount of data the last week isn't abnormal. Connecting over Console, it's just *slow*. When it does appear to do something, the timing is just...bad.

I bet the vast majority of social media consumers don't understand federation even though they likely use it regularly. Facebook Connect has been around forever—probably one of the first prominent examples. One of the best ideas I saw is getting Bluesky to use a federated login to acclimate people.

Given the information I collected, I was abler to get a tier 2 call. Bad news: no fix. Good news: #Apple is aware of it and working on a fix. Honestly, as a long-time veteran of software deployment, while I was hoping for a fix or work around, I mainly wanted to make sure they knew about it.

Though, actually, if you could have a personal dashboard that aggregates visuals or even recontextualizes data from other reports across data sources, that would actually be useful. 🤔

Heath Stewart @heaths.dev · 18/09/2026
What I really need is a dashboard for all the dashboards I’m supposed to use. Then I can ignore them all simultaneously.
