Today our first little bird leaves the nest for college. 🥲 She was organizing some of the stuff into the living room and we made sure to pack her favorite chew toys including her Kong.

My #Apple iDevices have all been stuck indexing since Monday. My wife's too. Every article explains how it may take a while. I get it. I've written indexers for and used Windows Search in most of its incarnations. But for days? Seems someone didn't write a robust indexer. Reported with logs. 😔

Do I want the 887.2 MB upgrade to iOS 26.7 or the 14.03 GB upgrade to iOS 26.7? 🤔 Tempted to try the second option to #iOS27 anyway but apprehensive.

Finally upgraded to #UniFi zones and migrated—mostly deleting rules that are now built-in—my firewall rules. Pretty slick. Then finally moved the rest of my IoT devices to the IoT VLAN & zone. I’d been it putting off because SmartThings/Z-wave made it such a pain.

Packing in the Seattle area for this: “Let’s see what the weather will be like in the other side of the continent! “Oh. Just like Seattle. 😔” 🌧️🌧️🌧️ Still, it’ll be fun, I’ll get to meet some people from the RCN IRL, and it will be nice to visit Montreal. Not like I’m not acclimated to rain.

I love Dune—my favorite being the two Syfy miniseries many years back. It was closer to the source material than the 1984 version. The newer versions are good, but way off the mark. Brian Tyler composed Children of Dune, and it's one of my favorite soundtracks after almost any John Williams.

My little sister sent me a belated birthday card that struck a nerve. I’ve been lambasting this for years and not just as I got older. Browsers support a standard date picker, number validation before that, and simple JavaScript for free-form numbers before that! Get with the times, all web sites!

Don’t shop at Walmart often where we live, but frequented one by our Vrbo in Puerto Rico this past week. First time we went I kept repositioning my phone till my wife noticed and said they don’t do that here. Every time we went I kept forgetting briefly. Nice they’re finally entering the late 2010s.

My mom and sister, Abby, are thinking of a trip to Greece. I injected: Mom should probably worry. If you’re going on a Mama Mia-inspired trip, just remember that the Odyssey was named after its sole survivor, Odysseus. Who do you think is coming back from an Abba-themed journey? #BigBrotherJokes

Because I rewrote this #GitHubCLI extension in #golang, it provided an opportunity to make some changes that, while possible with bash, are much easier in Go with the cli/go-gh module e.g., highlighting patterns, emitting JSON, or rendering templates.

#TdF organizers and #UCI - who keep touting “safety” - really need to avoid or better protect around road furniture like this. Sad to see Vingegaard injured and out of the Tour. Another view shows it was >90° and narrow to get around it. Other side was wider but on the inside of the sharp turn.

Announcing the 1.0.0 release of akv - a (near) drop-in replacement for the 1Password CLI - but using #KeyVault - I started as a demo project while working on the #AzureSDK for #rustlang. Since we GA'd that in May, I figured it was time to lock down on a CLI and GA myself.

Proud of my little girl! She graduated high school yesterday as president of her National Honors Society chapter. Some family was able to make it to Seattle to be with her. Hard to know what the future will hold with everything going on, but hope we taught her to make (mostly) good decisions.

I really have to stop finding yaks to shave. 🙄 Thought of a cool idea for #zellij that would help me be a little more productive but I first have to make a change in #clap-rs if Ed is open to it. I did prototype it easily in my local completions but then went down a rabbit hole to upstream it.

I contributed a late change to make #rustlang errors easier to use like how we define them in the #AzureSDK and found in many other popular crates.
