Pet sitting for a friend, so I carefully found every pet in the house prior to sitting down to work, mostly so that I know where to find them when I get fed up with writing this turkey manuscript 😅

Beautiful day for a #MOTUS tower setup on our local nature center. Conveniently located next to the children’s garden for maximum children pointing at us during installation 🙃
A metal mast with 7 antennas attached. The tower is attached to the roof of a building. View of the children’s garden at the nature center.

I have some temperature data from loggers attached to turtles. If I were to determine what best predicts when turtles go dormant, what would be the best way to identify variables? Thoughts so far are random forest or just linear models with a billion possible combos. Neither seems ideal

It’s sad to see trash in the woods, but it’s a little nicer that the trash is from the 70s-early 80s.

I want someone to start a YouTube channel that’s filled with those “day in the life” type videos except the person is an ecologist. Extra points if they mostly just do analytical work and therefore half their content is them sitting at their desk.

My first large LLC contract was supposed to start early February but because the government is a shitshow, it’s unclear when the contract will truly start. Lots of anxiety on that, but in the meantime our Cat Plant seems to be growing:

I want to write a spicy manuscript entitled “Poor Statistical Training in Wildlife Agencies Results in Mismanagement” or something like that and then just discuss all the hundreds of poorly made decisions state agencies make for game species.

UGA is encouraging staff to start using and promoting AI in their classrooms and research and I just… no. I do not like this. I agree AI can help with some tasks - namely image processing, grunt work type things, but this seems dangerous

I just want to remind everyone that a really fun, free,!ride-to-work activity is to call your least favorite senator/rep and just waste their office phone time by expounding in length about your thoughts on their job performance. I especially enjoy wasting the time of the office of #mikecollins.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Ran a half marathon, ended up with a kitten 😅 Luckily I had also randomly trapped a cat on Friday and we knew some folks looking for a pair. The cat distribution system at its best! Two fewer cats to eat the birds and create even MORE kittens.

For some reason there's an old crank in the deer world who claims #chronicwastingdisease #cwd isn't an issue. This is my 'favorite' section of his report. Like, my dude, we saw a 50% decline in deer densities in 4 years, I'm pretty sure that's a significant impact on population dynamics.
A report (falsely) claiming that CWD has no impact on population dynamics of deer.
