So, I've just read the new HMG 'Amber Book', and have to admit I'm impressed. It is comprehensive and IMO provides a more encompassing - 'Whole of Society' cognizant - structure than the old CONOPS. I find it reassuring that Cabinet Office 'get's it'. Also, only 3 typos

News of the #IceStorm in #Ontario, got me reaching for Murphy's ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️forensic analysis of leadership following their 1998 disaster. One of the themes he discusses will be familiar to people here, but it also made me think about direct parallels with the Valcencia floods.

A new study shows adding factors like rainfall, wind direction and leaf cover to models improves power outage predictions, aiding better preparation & response🌳⚡ For example the probability of outages was found to be 2-3 times higher in wet conditions. Read more here 👇

I have to say, I really like this proposed definition for 'Natural Hazards'. However, I tend to regard 'multi-hazards' as being situational (e.g., flood -> landslide at location), with the *approach* used to manage to them 'all-hazards' (i.e., nat and tech) www.nature.com/articles/s44...

I'm really not quite sure how to process this paragraph 🤔: "The (EA) said flash flooding had taken place in Somerset because the ground was already saturated. It said it needed to “shepherd” a huge amount of water through the system and stop water spilling on to the low-lying Somerset moors."
