And to be clear, I obviously have absolutely nothing against that man or the trades, but I would love Doug to look me in the eye and explain how teaching music doesn't help your communities. Better yet, make use of my trumpet mute and shut the fuck up.

Doug Ford has a series of commercials out right now encouraging people to go into the trades, and in one of them the man states that he originally wanted to become a music teacher but instead went into a job that impacts and helps his community and ohhh BOY do I have fucking feelings about this

Having become a widow at age 49 six months ago, this is the message I will shout from the rooftops for the rest of my life. Tomorrow is not promised. Having things in order at any age is the greatest gift you can leave your loved ones. The conversations are hard, but so necessary and valuable.

Third, want to not take six months to get a passport? Want your EI claim to go smoothly? Want Canada's cultural heritage to be preserved? Want environmental protections in place and health and safety regulations respected? Real people, real humans do that work. Public servants do that work.

Second, benefits are good. They protect people. They allow me to take care of my family, and myself, and make sure we have the care (medical, physical, mental) we need. We should demand that for everyone. Capitalism benefits the few, not the many. Why go for the lowest common denominator?

First, you cannot convince me that everyone in private industry is nose to the grindstone all the time while we slack off. Some employees work harder than others, in every industry, private or public. The people I work with work hard and take their responsibility to Canadians seriously.

I know there's not a lot of sympathy for public servants and their cushy jobs and fat cat benefits, but cuts of this magnitude will be devastating to the services Canadians depend on. And I would just say a couple of things.

the answer to the trolley problem is not to pick who to sacrifice, it’s to dismantle the system that led to an unsafe trolley crossing. if any part of your morality strategy involves picking a group to let die on a hill, throw the entire strategy out. it’s wrong.
