I, for one, am not falling for it. I've read and watched enough sci-fi to know that just because they're cute doesn't mean they won't kill us all
A group of small, bald, gray-skinned aliens with pointed ears and big amber eyes, all smiling sweetly with their mouths closed.Same aliens, but the one in the middle now grins wide, showing rows of sharp, needle-like teeth.

I remember Battersea Power Station derelict and under threat. I once got driven through it in a rally car; it felt post-apocalyptic. Now it's protected, beautifully restored and Apple's UK headquarters, with its first live music venue beneath it. Progress is awesome www.theverge.com/tech/998581/...

I get it, brand updates are tricky. I also get the need to refresh the Instagram logo. But as if we needed proof that people don't read anymore (and kerning and letterform criticisms aside), that's not how Rs work. The 'r' looks like a 'z,' so Instagzam it is

Writing about reading Neuromancer for the first time, then being retweeted by William Gibson, is like unlocking a hidden level in this video game called life

James Bareham @happicamp.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
Neuromancer, William Gibson's seminal cyberpunk novel, was first released exactly 42 years ago today. I read it for the first time in 2025. It holds up remarkably well and is remarkably prescient about AI—so much so that I wrote an essay about just how uncanny it is at times. I also made art
The word "Neuromancer" spelled out in blocky, three-dimensional pixel-style letters arranged in a four-row grid against a black background. The letters glow bright green with a neon light effect, casting a soft green halo into the surrounding darkness. The word "Neuromancer" spelled out in blocky, three-dimensional pixel-style letters arranged in a four-row grid against a black background. Having watched the 'Klara and the Sun' trailer a few times since it dropped, I can't get over how different Taika Waititi's world looks compared to the novel; brighter, sillier, than the poignant, cosy dystopia in my head—something I tried to visualize in the lead art for my essay

Elysium is fundamentally about healthcare: who gets it, who's locked out, in a dystopian future. As someone whose healthcare costs rose 178% this year, I find the film disturbingly relatable living in the US; watching it hits different in 2026 mbh4h.substack.com/p/elysium-mo...

In 2013, Elysium was pure science fiction. In 2026, it's disturbingly relatable
Neill Blomkamp's Elysium imagined the extremely wealthy decamping to orbit and leaving the rest of us behind. In 2026, they don't need a space station.

Is AI a good thing or a bad thing? The answer is, yes. It's an "and," not an "or"—so I wrote two essays arguing both sides, framed around two great sci-fi films: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival and Neill Blomkamp's Elysium. First up: AI is good—Arrival. 🧵 mbh4h.substack.com/p/arrival-mo...

Why Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival is a perfect framework to the AI debate
Is AI a weapon, a tool, or a gift? By revisiting the sci-fi classic Arrival, we can move beyond binary debates and finally understand the nature of AI today.
