Neuromancer, William Gibson's seminal cyberpunk novel, was first released exactly 42 years ago today. I read it for the first time in 2025. It holds up remarkably well and is remarkably prescient about AI—so much so that I wrote an essay about just how uncanny it is at times. I also made art

Having watched the 'Klara and the Sun' trailer a few times since it dropped, I can't get over how different Taika Waititi's world looks compared to the novel; brighter, sillier, than the poignant, cosy dystopia in my head—something I tried to visualize in the lead art for my essay

Elysium is fundamentally about healthcare: who gets it, who's locked out, in a dystopian future. As someone whose healthcare costs rose 178% this year, I find the film disturbingly relatable living in the US; watching it hits different in 2026 mbh4h.substack.com/p/elysium-mo...
mbh4h.substack.com
In 2013, Elysium was pure science fiction. In 2026, it's disturbingly relatable
Neill Blomkamp's Elysium imagined the extremely wealthy decamping to orbit and leaving the rest of us behind. In 2026, they don't need a space station.

Is AI a good thing or a bad thing? The answer is, yes. It's an "and," not an "or"—so I wrote two essays arguing both sides, framed around two great sci-fi films: Denis Villeneuve's Arrival and Neill Blomkamp's Elysium. First up: AI is good—Arrival. 🧵 mbh4h.substack.com/p/arrival-mo...

Why Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival is a perfect framework to the AI debate
Is AI a weapon, a tool, or a gift? By revisiting the sci-fi classic Arrival, we can move beyond binary debates and finally understand the nature of AI today.
