The Government's abrupt announcement to halt the SFI will ultimately harm nature-friendly farmers who are producing sustainable food for our society. Smaller, family farms and organic producers risk facing disproportionate impacts with this short-sighted, and entirely avoidable decision.

Decision-makers must consider the human & environmental impact of this "farm" (can we even call it that?)? Intensive livestock operations are hotspots of poor animal welfare, cause air, soil and water pollution and crowd out smaller, independent farms. It is totally unnecessary.

This piece is good. Lack of food and land use policy direction is causing chaos for all managers of land. Farmers have a plan. Environmentalists have a plan. Often they’re aligned. Govt meddling is a dangerous foot on the hosepipe causing both to wonder what on earth they are supposed to be doing.

In the US, we already did our large-scale deforestation a while ago (and are now using those cleared lands for agriculture or settlements), and we currently use a very high amount of fossil fuels
