meme; top image is of stressed out guy with whiskey in front of him. the implication is he’s stress-drinking alcohol, but plot twist! the bottom image shows stressed out guy taking a swig of orange soda instead.

I appreciate all of you who use the Alt-text description for the images you post. As a blind dude I feel so much more included here. For those of you who forget: Did you know there’s a reminder in Settings/Accessibility to toggle on & then it won’t let you post image without Alt-text. Thanks 🙏😎

Here's my periodic request to ask folks to inform me, either on posts or via dm, if I ever share something problematic or follow someone who is. I've been using Lists and Starter Packs to follow interest-based accounts, so I don't know every account well before I add them. Thank you 💚

Don’t be the same dusty ass you were on Twitter. Post your hobbies, your passions, talk with each other, follow people back. There is no reason for someone with like 78k followers to be following a handful of people. Don’t act like you’re an elitist dipshit here. We are nice here, to each other.

people who use goodreads: jeff bezos owns goodreads and if you want a better alternative there is a black woman owned company called storygraph that you can use to replace it. you can transfer all of your data from goodreads to storygraph and have your mind be free of trumpie jeff bezos! win win. 💙

It's one of those nights at the summit where high winds are blowing billows and ribbons of cloud across the landscape, then we get engulfed for a while. Snapped this between waves. : ) 📷

was it casual when someone asked me "are you two rivals?" and it cut to a scene of us having knives at each other's throats as a metaphor for our dynamic, strengthening the entire movie's theme of us being fated rivals, just for me to respond with "we're just friends" #kenhina

An image of a scene from Haikyuu!! The Garbage Dump Battle with Kenma and Hinata having knives at each other's throats, edited on top of a meme of Person A asking in a TikTok comment section, "Are they rivals?" and Person B responding with, "Worse."

Generally we think of alt-text as the domain of those with accessibility needs. However alt-text is useful for many reasons, which benefit your viewers, as well as you, the creator!

An infographic. There are six panels.

1. "Slow internet. Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images." a drawing shows a phone with poor signal, and alt text is visible where the image should have loaded.

2. "Findabillity. Alt text helps to search content." A drawing shows someone searching 'dog with banana' and a post is shown underneath without the words 'dog' or 'banana'. It is implied to be part of the alt text.

3. "Screen readers. Alt is read out to people using text-to-speech software". There is a drawing of the output a screen-reader would show when viewing an image with alt text on bluesky.

4. "Translation. Alt text can be translated". A drawing shows a post being translated. The alt text is also translated into german.

5. "Readability. Text in images can be made legible" There is a drawing of some truly awful handwriting inside a speech bubble. The alt text clarifies what the text is supposed to say.

6. "Disambiguation. Description helps clarify intent." There is a drawing of a post with a picture of a creature. This is styled after the famous optical illusion of a rabbit and a duck. The alt text clarifies that the animal is a rabbit. It definitely looks more like a duck.
