In recent weeks there have been several urgent calls about data that was removed with little warning. And in most cases, our amazing volunteers had captured the threatened content proactively. This #MemeMonday we're celebrating just how much data we've helped protect in the past 18 months. 💪
Meme based on a Facebook post. A small blue flag at the top is labeled USA. The text reads "Marked safe from losing essential federal data today."

There may always be money in the banana stand, but you can't always recreate your data if they are lost (we're talking file corruption, accidental deletion, even malicious deletion!). This #MemeMonday heed the words of Gob from #ArrestedDevelopment and back up the important data in your life.
A screenshot from Arrested Development. The character GOB says "I've made a huge mistake." The top of the image has superimposed text that reads "When you didn't back up your data."

Happy #MemeMonday, Data Rescuers! No need for an existential crisis! Involving project management workflows, data documentation efforts, and utilizing stable file formats (when able) early on in a project can go a long way in ensuring your data preservation techniques are Kenough for future users.

Just possessing a dataset isn't true preservation of your files. For this #MemeMonday, protect yourself against possible mishaps, and consider the 3-2-1 backup rule, add relevant documentation and metadata, and deposit your data in a reputable repository for reference and reuse.

For this week's #MemeMonday, don't be like Aragorn! If you're able to, please consider publishing your data in a reputable repository. We here at DRP deposit our rescued data in #DataLumos from @icpsr.bsky.social
Pippin from Lord of the Rings asking Aragorn "What about your data?

Aragorn replies "My data is in the paper"

Pippin then asks "But what about publishing your data so it's more findable and reusable?"

Question for the #DataSharing community. We use "README" to name dataset documentation files. But that name is not accessible for screen readers or for dyslexic users. Is there a better file name than "README"? Or is that name so short and effective that it's still useful? #A11y #Accessibility
