Neat thing about living in a small coastal town with massive temperature gradients is that four web sites can simultaneously report current temp is 78, 82, 83, and 93 F. On-site thermometer says 89. NOAA wins.

I assigned random gender/ethnicity labels to scientific abstracts from the literature and then asked Claude to do a thematic analysis. Claude identified a clinical versus computational split for female/male authors and a DEI focus for Black/URM authors. All in completely random data.

As a Serious Scientist I was preparing to scoff at such frippery, but I think this is cool. It legitimately succeeds at what every speaker who ever used comic sans in a science talk was trying to do.

Thinking of stuff I've owned for a while as new was a fun sign of age (e.g. my "new Kindle" is 14 years old LOL) until I realized my "new bike" is now 8 years old and now I am catastrophic need of buying a new bike

Spring in Maine, as told by my Garmin watch data: - intensity minutes rise as I abandon the trainer to bike outside - sleep/rest metrics magically rise - stress score and resting heart rate magically fall
Five years of Garmin watch data showing that spring is healthy

Ok Teams is a disaster but honestly I really like the new Factor 1/Factor 2 review rubric. Much cleaner discussions, more focused on the science and outcomes, and clear boundaries for the SRO/chair to enforce.

The way NIH's Teams meetings sporadically mute audio between random pairs of participants is a marvel of government efficiency. Bravo on the move away from a reliable videoconf platform, a decision I'm sure was made after consulting with the affected CSR staff.
