the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

Great piece from @wajali.bsky.social on all the "hypocritical outrage" from the GOP over the Hunter Biden pardon. He brings receipts:

Please Spare Me All Hypocritical Outrage Over Hunter Biden's Pardon
The same movement that supports and celebrates a criminal, vulgarian insurrectionist who pardons his criminal friends now feigns outrage. Here's me playing the world's smallest violin.

I love this idea that Biden pardoning Hunter will somehow ‘justify’ or ‘excuse’ Trump pardoning the Jan 6th prisoners, ignoring the fact that: 1. Trump had promised to pardon them long before Biden did this. 2. There is nothing comparable between Hunter’s crimes & their crimes.

Ezra on twitter, quoting an Atlantic profile of Kash Patel. Link to the Atlantic piece is in bluesky post.

Ladies and gentlemen. meet Kash Patel, the president-elect's choice to run the FBI:

"In The Plot Against the King, a children’s book, [Kash] Patel tells the story of a wizard named Kash who sets out to save King Donald from the sinister machinations of Hillary Queenton and a “shifty knight."

"Patel produced 'Justice for All,' a version of the national anthem sung by jailed January 6 defendants and played by Trump at his first 2024 campaign rally."

"Patel expressed no doubt about his capacity to deliver the goods. 'We will go out and find the conspirators, not just in government but in the media,' he said. 'Yes, we’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens, who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections—we’re going to come after you.'”

“'A lot of people say he’s crazy,' Trump once said of Patel, according to the longtime adviser. 'I think he’s kind of crazy. But sometimes you need a little crazy.'”

"The prevailing sentiment in Trump’s inner circle, according to the longtime adviser, is that there is no upside to calling out Patel’s exaggerations or lies. By now, this person explained, Trump is entrenched in his view of Patel as a 'useful tool.' The former president, the adviser said, understands that 'Kash is the one you say to, ‘Hey, I’m not telling you to go break into the DNC. But…’ ”

Yep. Biden, wanting to Uphold the Norms, agreed to keep on a Trump-appointed prosecutor who was probing his son. Created a special counsel to probe his own post-VP document retention. Kept on Durham so he could finish a Trump-ordered probe of 2016. What did he get? Nothing. So here he goes.

In 2023, families separated at the border by Trump secured a settlement that included an eight-year ban on the practice. The length was crafted partly out of fear of Trump returning to office. In an interview with @time.com, the lead lawyer says he’s bracing for Trump to do it again anyway

yeah. this is just giving up the game: 1. keep folks only on his site 2. get people to offer their reporting to him for free 3. reward folks who aggregate reporting (and do so w/ minimum crediting). It's a shitty user experience. It also should incentivize reporters/outlets to move elsewhere

I suspect partisan split on trust in science is a matter of positive feedback. One side doesn't like what science is saying (climate, vaccines), so they attack it. Scientists argue back. Partisans react defensively, giving their side more reason to attack science. Repeat. www.vox.com/future-perfe...
