Despite the westerly winds there were some signs of migration with 2 whinchat on Gunton Warren this morning, a steady trickle overhead of meadow pipit and a tree pipit that alighted onto a dead sycamore branch, resting and preening for 10 minutes before flying off inland.

Once Benacre Ness, now Kessingland Ness: this vast bank of sand & shingle is migrating north at about 20–25 metres a year ... unusually, against the usual long-term direction of sediment transport along this Suffolk coast. #Kessingland #Suffolk #AerialPhotography #Coast

Benacre Ness is prograding northwards at about 20 m per year. It has enigmatic dynamics, researched @hburningham.bsky.social and Howard Mottram @suffolk-nats1929.bsky.social. It will soon be in Pakefield...

Thankful of a second chance with the pale-bellied Brents at Ness Point this morning as the 15 surprisingly returned but stayed on the sea due to the high tide. They flew off south at 10:55.

The juvenile Red-footed falcon continues to show ridiculously well in central Lowestoft today, by the roundabout north of the Gull wing bridge, coming down to crickets! Present since Friday, galling to think I cycled past Friday lunchtime oblivious it was here! 🙄

Plenty of birds about on the patch today, a notatble change it was to be picking out Chiffchaffs among all the willow warblers, the opposite to how it normally is each autumn as I see very few of the latter but this autumn its the opposite! A couple each of pied and spotted fly plus whitethroat too.

Pleased to catch up with the Wryneck at Corton this afternoon, plus its Pied Fly and Redstart supporting cast following the too elusive bird on Gunton Warren this morning. Felt like there could have been more today...

A walk around the patch this afternoon on a slightly different route added 2 more Wheatears on the burial field, plus a Whinchat!

The easterlies we've had for over 24 hours finally bare some 'feathered fruit' with a Common Redstart on Dip farm and another on Gunton Warren, the latter with a supporting cast of 4 Wheatears. Now where's the Wryneck? #Suffolkbirding

Clement Reid used submerged forests exposed along the Norfolk coastline to point to the existence of Doggerland - a terrestrial landscape pre-existing the formation of the North Sea. At Must Farm the preserved stumps of Oak trees pre-date a marine inundation caused by rising sea levels around 2300BC

🇺🇦☀️ Hundreds of storks swarm Ukrainian field during harvest A Ukrainian farmer shared incredible footage. In the video, hundreds, or possibly thousands, of birds gathered in the middle of a field. Ukrainians are already calling such a large number of storks a good sign.

Willow Warbler's another bird that in comparison with points not too far away has been a tad slow to make it to this part of the South Coast - this is our first autumn youngster today from the CEF mist-nets. A final far from special migrant tally from the nets of 3 Sedge W, 1 Grasshopper W & 1 WW.
