i've played it through a few times and, outside of a few cool moments, very little of it resonated with me beyond "wow cool job system" - which, to be fair - the job system is really fun in 5. I still like it a lot, I really love the whole SNES trilogy

But really its a weird series. I tried a few times before it really clicked for me. I played a chunk of FU and then a good amount of 4U - liked em but didnt get super in. Then world came and I got hooked.

Emulating 4U would be my recommendation. Still feels classic but with enough QoL to not be super off putting. World is also easy to get into. The investigation stuff is annoying but for a first play thru not too bad. And it plus iceborne is $10 right now.

Honestly ive played a lot of monster hunter and a very small amount of that time was with others. Friends and i played a chunk of world together and ill do quests with randoms sometimes to speed up a grind or an annoying key quest. Running them solo is totally viable

I'd also caution about just getting a wheel / pedals and slapping that on your desk. Ive got an entry level wheel and it just feels like shit to play on since like the angles bad for the pedals and i keep rolling away. Its real awkward and i end up not using it because of that

I definitely think its reliance on replaying hurt it (short, like 6 difficulty settings). Thats not really how a lot of people engage with games. Fun enough though. I do need to play OG 3 for sure. Gotta get over the beginning hump (the like resource drain up front stresses me out)
