Three panel comic. Panel 1: a chimpanzee in an enclosure is sitting on the ground and painting abstract streaks of color on a canvas lying in the grass. Panel 2: a couple is standing outside the enclosure, looking in. The girl says about the painting chimpanzee, “aww, that’s cute.” Panel 3: the chimpanzee is alone in his dimly lit studio, head in hands, holding a lit cigarette. He looks completely dejected, feeling misunderstood. There is a pair of glasses, a glass of whisky, crumpled paper, and an unfinished painting laid out on the desk in front of him. The walls and floor space of his studio are covered in his abstract paintings on canvases and paper. There is also a marble sculpture of a banana beside him.

I don't know how but we have to teach people to be better at detecting bullshit. Instead we have this ersatz skepticism where people are suspicious about the wrong things and find their way to conclusions that are worse than if they just blindly accepted conventional wisdom

Also yeah people should chill about the plague, it's a known treatable disease and hundreds of people catch it every year, including in the us. The only question is we need to be sure it is the plague and not some other unknown virus. Which would be a lot more concerning.

This is misinformation, pneumonic plague and bubonic plague are the same disease caused by the same bacteria, bubonic plague happens when you get it from rat's flees, pneumonic is when you get it airborne, one can evolve to the other and to septicemic plague.

In France, high-school children are protesting to obtain better conditions for studying. The Ministry has requested that "there should be no restrictions on the use of force, and no instructions not to use all available weapons". Several children have suffered mutilations to their eyes or hands.

probably due to more convoluted ML algorithm that basically assume you want the most popular thing people search on a topic and not a specific search on a keywords combination. It's unusable. all of it; AI or not.

AI means a variety of things; it can means basic ML that we've had in search engines for decades or it can mean LLM or generative and the fact the term AI covers both of those things only obfuscates further what's going on. Also search engines are very obviously getting worse

This is the crux of the problem. 'AI' is not a single, coherent, tractable tech, but a series of elaborate constructions and workarounds meant to give and sustain the illusion of human-like intention. The specific tech used is irrelevant and variable as long as it accomplishes that

They cant stop using analogies and completely out of scope terminology. If they did, they would realize how ridiculous they sound with this shit. Software is ephemeral magic that exists on an intelligence astral plane, instead of just loops through that hardware finite instruction set architecture
cassandroid says:
The architecture of LLMs is built. The weights are grown. We don't understand how these systems actually work internally. Intelligence emerges, nature has shows us that many times. You can't even define what "think" means.

needs a less confusing assessment of the situation first. but I'll stick with the most likely reading of the article; a woman died of plague because she broke a tube with the plague working for the anti-plague institute. not gonna assume anything else until there's more information.

"She reportedly told medical staff that she had accidentally broken a test tube containing live bacteria while collecting samples for testing." so from context what I get is she broke live plague bacteria while working at the plague institute; so she got the actual plague.
