Russia's Urals Oil has hit $128 a barrel thanks to Trump's war against Iran. Even though Russia is getting a record price for their oil exports, their revenue is down 17% because of Ukraine's drone attacks.

We have a lesson in our foreign policy process class about lobbying and interest groups and present circumstances are challenging in that we try to teach how DC works for real but we also can't present students material that flat out says current US officials are crooks, even if true 🤷‍♂️

Pete Hegseth gave a speech in front of a backdrop that almost perfectly matches Nazi imagery. Meanwhile, Trump calls opponents “vermin” who he will “root out,” and says the blood of our country is being poisoned. We are far past left vs right. Our choice is democracy or fascism.

An economics lesson for Tucker Carlson from Britain’s Jacob Rees-Mogg. In reality, the war is what is currently keeping both the Russian economy and Putin’s power afloat. Ending the war will trigger a "demilitarization shock" to Russia’s budget.

"Overflowing with unnecessary knowledge." The head of the Human Rights Council called for cutting math, physics, and chemistry classes after Putin demanded that factories be filled with workers.

Valery Fadeyev, head of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, proposed cutting back on school curricula in the exact sciences. "Many courses are overloaded with unnecessary information and knowledge. This includes mathematics, physics, and chemistry. These courses could be cut by 20-30 percent," he told TASS. According to Fadeyev, all subject curricula should be reviewed. He also advocated for the use of proven textbooks, citing Andrei Kiselev's mathematics textbook, written before the 1917 Revolution, as an example. "If the pinnacle of teaching methods has been achieved, there's no need to do anything else. We just need to select the best textbooks and teach children from them," the head of the Human Rights Council said.

The authorities had previously reduced the number of hours in other subjects. Starting in 2026, social studies was retained only in grades 9–11, and the number of hours of foreign language in grades 5–9 was reduced from 510 to 408. The freed-up hours in social studies were transferred to history.

From my introduction to the event, summarizing what I learned from this essential book:
I had always believed that the purpose of the Court was to protect the minority against the whims of the majority, And over history, the Justices themselves have wholeheartedly agreed. But which minority? Protecting them from what? And when you think about it, since no population ever has agreed unanimously on everything, the quote "tyranny of the majority," is just a slur for democracy. The people vote on an issue or on candidates, the majority wins, and makes laws. And if laws — made and enacted by a process the Constitution was written to create — can be overturned by just five unelected and unaccountable people, then that is no democracy.
