Probably should've eaten breakfast here but I didn't have time. And the neon would have been less impressive in the daytime.

This one is one of my favorites (I've visited before). It opened as an A&P in 1939 and somehow managed to hang on until 1982, when the current occupant took over. It's on Taylor Blvd in Louisville across from Churchill Downs, and it's basically kept the neighborhood from becoming a food desert.

I was thinking of taking that route anyway. It skips West Virginia and the turnpike completely and doesn't really take much longer. So I'm not complaining.

📻 To celebrate College Radio Day, tune in to more than a century of college radio history. In 1906, Harvard students formed what was described as the first college radio club. By the 1920s, students were building stations and broadcasting campus events. 📚 More: blog.archive.org/2026/10/02/1... 🧵

Looks like the Loblaws that's barely visible at the left edge of the first photo is no longer standing and would have been about where the current Pizza Nova is located.

The southeast corner of Avenue Road and Davenport on this day in 1930. Today the corner building still holds a TD Bank, a descendant of the Dominion Bank. ow.ly/Nq5750ZR27c
Black and white photo of a street corner. A white three-storey building with a gable has a sign saying, "The Dominion Bank" painted on the side and lace curtains in the upstairs windows. Next to it, is a one-storey shop called Stop and Shop has large windows and an awning. A sign on the roof parapet reads, "Home of 8¢ Bread". Series 372, Subseries 3, Item 983.

I never had anything cleaned there but I'm not the kind of person who needs to have things dry cleaned very often. Usually just my black suit after someone dies…

I've been driving by this building my whole life and almost every day for the past 10 years or so. The cleaners finally closed recently and I'm afraid it's not going to be there much longer. It's a fairly unremarkable building but I'll miss it.
