Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 13/10/2026I wonder whether it might be taking a v narrow view of what constitutes interference. I'd assumed that potential Rus funding of various leave groups would be the sort of thing being considered rather than the stuff mentioned in the linked piece. 100
Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/202690% of children infected with Hep B will develop chronic Hep B and up to 1 in 4 of those are likely to develop liver cancer. It's ferociously unethical. 040
Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/2026The nature of a simple referendum is that you go from stone cold sober to absolutely bladdered at 50.01%. Say Russia only had a 0.01% impact. In the above scenario thats enough to decisively change the result. Sure the 49.99 would be something we need to address, but we wouldn't have left the EU. 000
Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/2026I have no way of making a meaningful judgement on whether the impact could have been decisive or not. I very much doubt I'll ever get to see the evidence that would help me form a judgment on that. 000
Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/2026If you look at the polling swings prior to the vote something was changing people's minds. I dont think it's tin foil hat territory to wonder if russian money was funding reform's targeted Facebook ads etc. Not sure you need strategic genius to pump cash at the most plausible disruptor in farage? 000

Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Our own domestic short comings are at least a valid reason for a pro brexit vote. Foreign interference just has no part to play. I guess I'm also not informed enough to know how big an jmpact it could have had so my default position is that it needs sorting to prevent it in the future. 100
Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Where i think I do disagree is that any interference could be marginal in a referendum that only needed a 1.9% swing to give a different result. The impact of Brexit is more fundamental to the country than even a GE and needs to be unimpeachable to be credible. 210
Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Its the impression the thread gives. If folks are accusing you of "carrying water for putin" then I'm not the only one reading it that way. Nuanced positions are difficult to convey on socials though. God knows I've failed often enough. 100
Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/2026We should try to adress all of the reasons for the leave vote. Putting our own domestic house in order is clearly the top priority, but I just can't follow how that leads to 'completely ignore established foreign interference in the vote' as a logical outcome. 100
Grippo @grippo77.bsky.social · 12/10/2026The problem is that in theory russian influence could have been really, trivially, small, but potentially have had a critical influence. Eg maybe russian interference only changed the minds of 2% of voters... The wine bottle analogy doesn't work because it doesn't allow for that. 100
