At least seven rounds likely from an AR-15 clone in a crowded city without an active shooter is as grossly irresponsible as it is dangerous

I wish I had checked them out when I was capable of long meandering walks, but I guess I could do a couple short walks over time! This isn’t all that far from me

I find these tight little midcentury commercial districts along The Lodge so interesting. They are relatively occupied, maintained, and less demolished than some other commercial streets in the city have been

A couple months ago I set down the enjoyable but slow-moving memoir I was reading for a cozy romance. I was really stressed and I needed it, and it was a good choice

Orange Roofs Golden Arches is an older but good book on fast food architecture. I think the other one I read on this was Hamburger Heaven by Jeffrey Tennyson

But yeah the whole white and steel thing was supposed to convey cleanliness and standardization, and convince people that eating outside of home was clean and safe.

There have been experiments by others to adapt it to residential use—the Armco-Ferro House at the Century of Progress exposition was the prototype, and post WW2 Lustrons were briefly mass manufactured (there are a couple around Detroit still)

When they first invented those buildings it was such a new material they didn’t know if it would be any good. They set one out in a field and it survived a Chicago winter, so they set barrels of tar on fire around it and it did okay with that too. They shrugged and started making that their thing

Idk about the lawsuits but White Castle invented the enameled steel building. The others copied them, I wanna say White Tower (it was one of them) went so far as to steal their architectural plans back in the day

I also feel frustrated trying to find info on them. Once somebody I knew from the WSU community was running and I felt good about that. And I tried to keep posted on how the regents reacted to student protests. But yeah idk usually it’s a “this person seems fine, I guess”

I don’t know yet, there haven’t been any news stories on it. I assume we would have heard if something truly awful happened but I don’t know for sure. It damaged a fair amount of things on top of one end of the ship but it didn’t like split it half or anything, it was still floating and in 1 piece

A similar type of incident was how the historic Fort Street Bridge in Detroit was destroyed. That’s why there is that new one, in that case somebody was drunk driving the drawbridge

It grinds my gears when we start rewriting history. It’s even little things, like letting a PR justification become the narrative when those who lived it know what really happened. That applies to even local things, like alley recycling ending. For years the city couldn’t maintain pickups.
Spencer halted alley pickup, which served the vast majority of city neighborhoods, because too much trash was getting into recycling dumpsters, contaminating truckloads and requiring the city to pay its processor extra to send them to the landfill.fee. Her operations chief, Ben Jonsson, said an outside contractor might be needed at first to handle the extra routes
because the city was short on trucks and drivers.

I notice it the most when we do our designated “go all the way up to Rogers Park and do Rogers Park things” day. It is far from where we stay, and it would be so nice to just quickly grab coney food to refuel without it being complicated

I used to see this mural with that quote here in Detroit, it was near a spot that’s sentimental to me
Color photo of a mural on a bright orange wall with two spooky jester masks surrounded by roses and a scroll that reads “laugh now, cry later.” Both of the faces are grimacing and one of them is smoking a blunt. They have clown noses.
