Mortgage rates just hit 7%. I can't even imagine being in the position of trying to buy a first home today. Housing is such a factor in cost of living, and the only way to lock down housing costs is to buy. But the math is just really tough at these rates. Good luck everyone, I guess.

How incredibly sad. I once got to see him and Marketa Irglová perform a secret show, by following my nose to a small back room in boutique hotel during a music festival that happened to be there while I was on a business trip. They were spectacular, and he was a force of nature.

I never expected to read the words “poop smoothie” in The New Yorker, but here we are. “Fibre,” which is apparently standard spelling in the New Yorker style guide, is indeed the new protein, and creators are gaining internet fame teaching their roughage-deprived followers how to fibremaxx. Recipe developer Ariel Pastore-Sebring, 31, has earned 70,000 social media followers and DMs about strangers’ bowel movements with “Blow Outz,” a recipe series she introduced by speaking into a roll of toilet paper that includes a Poop Smoothie (nicknamed the “Poothie,” which is somehow even worse) of spinach, chia, oats, and peanut butter. Self-described “fibre daddy” Alan Lin, 36, sells Liquid Salad in baby-food pouches. “I take a huge dump every morning, and then I crush the MacBook for thirteen hours every day,” he says. Aspirational content takes on many forms.
