STATEMENT FROM SENATOR MEHREEN FARUQI
This morning I stepped down as Deputy Leader of the Greens to put my hand up for Leader. Of course, I am disappointed the party room chose another direction, and know many others will feel the same way.
I'm as inspired as ever by the fierce dedication of Greens members organising around the country.
It's a privilege to be an elected member of a movement whose power, and appetite for change, comes from the community, not the parliament or our MPs.
Globally, people are struggling against genocide, wars, surging fascism and the twin crises of capitalism making working life too expensive and climate breakdown threatening our future.

This struggle calls for bold politics and radical action. I did not stand again for Deputy Leader today because, on reflection, I believe I can best play my part in that action outside the constraints of the leadership team.
I've long advocated publicly that Greens leaders should be elected by members with enough time for thoughtful deliberation on who is best to grow our party. I share members' frustration that the opposite happened this week. Without a member vote, we cannot call ourselves a grassroots party.
I call on the new leadership team to set a timeline for one member, one vote.

The economic model of that time also assumed high tax rates for the wealthy to offset their increased incomes due to higher interest on cash investments. That doesn’t happen anymore.

it's based on "classical" economics, which frankly is total bullshit. It's reverse trickle down economics. If you are at the bottom of the economic pile, you bear 100% of the cost. The closer you are to the top, the more you pass it on to the poor schmuck below you

For the past 2 days I’ve been having a text battle with dad as he denies the childhood trauma I experienced at the hands of my abusive mother while he turned a blind eye. He prefers a romanticised version of my childhood instead & reacts with disappointment at my “harsh recollections”. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🕊️💙🦋
