Huge thanks to Matt Sawyer of City Lights Bookstore (NC) for bringing, among other gifts, a stellar understanding of my book to a fun, insightful discussion. One great pleasure of publishing a book is hearing other people summarize it way better than you can. www.storymadeproject.com/booksonthebe...

Here's one way to help Springfield families affected by the ending of TPS--donations for food boxes. Here's hoping paths to permanent residence / citizenship are what replaces TPS instead of more deeply needless brutality. In the meantime: ancljkuy.donorsupport.co/page/FoodBox...

I saw a graph today that showed the results of “machine learning” in ranking the relative “warmth” of a dead author’s salutation across thousands of her letters. It’s a new day in the humanities, with scholars eager to demonstrate how machines can make their work just as irrelevant in far less time

We are now well into the long terrible months for which there are no seasonally themed giant Reese’s. It’s time to invent a summer shape! Flip-flop? Sunglasses? I would settle for repurposing the egg as “indeterminate scat” if it meant continued access to the correct proportion of PB : chocolate

I knew I couldn’t be the only one looking for a 2-inch Baphomet figurine to offer to all the public institutions currently displaying Jesus figurines (both local post offices, for instance).
Screenshot: A five-star review for a tiny Baphomet statue in which the buyer says they were looking to match the vibe of the mini Jesus they are seeing everywhere. A picture of the two figurines, well matched in height, is included.

I'm going to be talking to poetic and moral superstar *Allison Davis* next Tuesday, April 7, at Prologue Bookshop's NEW location in Columbus at 6:30. Allison and I will almost certainly have less trouble finding the new space than we did logging into the same Teams meeting to plan for it (my fault).

I wanna read a memoir by someone who is good at MATH (not an autobiography by a famous science person, a memoir by a writer person who decided to be a writer despite being really good at math. Primo Levi’s Periodic Table, which I treat as a book of essays, is one of my FBOAT) (fav books . . . )

Wow does this take me back. Pin trading was a HUGE part of traveling girls fastpitch culture in the 90s. I still have my collection of 100s of pins from teams all over the country. Each team had their own pin/s & we'd trade at tournaments. The unspoken rules were complex & totally worthy of comment.

The craziest thing happened last week. One of my best friends from high school emailed me out of the blue about my book, and when I asked her how she'd heard about it, she sent me this 12 Must Read Books of Feb. 2026 list from the Chicago Review of Books, which she'd been made aware of because . . .

Toured the State Library of Ohio recently & spotted this shelf label--proof that our state govt used to provide some official documents in German as well as English to serve citizens (including my maternal grandpa's grandparents) who spoke German. Multilingualism has always been part of our history.
A bookshelf sign that reads "Rare State Documents, oversize German language revised statutes"
