Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

Oh haha yeah, brand new car design that was highly touted but has failed to finish (either car) in like half the races. Dead last in the standings if not for Cadillac. Great livery, though!

I mean more that it's an opportunity to re-examine our approach everywhere (yes, yes, an infamous zero-based review but one that's long overdue). Force posture, basing arrangements, etc should all be up for discussion, though obviously not undertaken unilaterally

While this looks transit-oriented, maximizing access to the subway would look more like circles of residential density around each station, rather than one long string of density down the road.

Corridor Zoning is not Transit-Oriented Development
Corridor zoning is a style of development, in which major arterial streets are zoned for high residential and commercial density, while side streets remain zoned for low density, sometimes even for…

I'm ready to clip a lot of wings, man. It's clear Pax Americana is dead and we should be ready to embrace that to some extent (in the sense of "bigger Euro defense budgets" and "bilateral non-US arrangements," not "continuing to shit talk Canada")

Norway has solution to this actually, stay at home parents can get their share of the public daycare subsidy as cash, that way parents are not pushed one way or the other. the problem of course is virtually no one on the center or right actually gives a shit about parents

it’s genuinely fascinating how establishment democratic politics in big cities has become so ossified and incompetent that they’ve created a huge lane for the left to embrace good government reforms and build a broad coalition of socialists and technocrats

As I no longer hang out on ex-Twitter, I missed this worrying declaration from the head of the National Nuclear Security Administration last week. This new policy emphasizing building new nuclear warheads rather than maintaining the 3,700 we already have has not been debated or approved by Congress.
A September 14, 2026, tweet from Brandon Williams:

“The era of primarily emphasizing Stockpile Stewardship is over.

Going forward we will be defined primarily as an organization focused on weapons production.”

"Is it good? No. Will it achieve anything that matters? Also no. Is it conceivable that possibly it maybe won't be the worst thing that happens to journalism? Eh, we'll see."
He said that if the state had held out and gone to trial on its antitrust arguments, it would not have been able to negotiate any journalistic oversight for CNN and CBS, whereas the “creativity and flexibility of settlement” allowed them to establish the oversight panel.

“Does that transform our information ecosystem broadly, to make sure that there’s no more misinformation or disinformation? No. Does it make sure that all broadcast news and cable channel news organizations are only telling fair, fact-based, independent, objective news? No. Does it even ensure that happens every single time at CBS News or CNN? No,” Bonta said. “Does it improve the likelihood, vastly, significantly, that that outcome will occur? It does.”

There is something so unbelievably bleak about an article that calmly walks readers through how to navigate being laid off after 50, losing your health insurance, and somehow surviving the years until Medicare. What a broken country.

Laid Off After 50, and No Health Insurance? Here’s What to Consider. (Gift Article)
At best, older workers will struggle to find health insurance that bridges the years before they qualify for Medicare at age 65.

10+ years of lobbying for this war & going after those questioning their logic. 7 months, 1000s of deaths, billions of $ into it, they’re learning: their goals weren’t reachable, they had serious gaps in “analysis,” they didn’t consider tradeoffs, and they hand waged inconvenient evidence.

California Environmentalism is easy to understand. State law mandates that every parking garage display a prominent warning that parking garages are known to the State of California to Cause Cancer. At the same time, every city has a law that requires all new buildings to include parking garages.

It's not that @mayor.lacity.gov, @gavinnewsom.bsky.social and several other prominent California Democrats think it's a good trade that people are continuously maimed and killed along a road in a park so that cars can travel fast along it. It's that they know it's shameful and are trying to hide it.
