A THOUSAND THREADS is a twisted, adult retelling of “The Princess & the Pea” in which she’s not a princess but a reclusive fugitive in disguise on a probably-doomed quest to clear her name & return to her plants. Plus, there’s pirates. Querying late 2026 🤞 #BluePit #📖 #F #A #W #Fairytaleretelling

A background image of being underwater. Fancy gold swirls with flowers and leaves line the edges. Built into these swirls are the images of a boat, a very tall bed, and the profiles of a man and woman. There is text in the center featuring the title, “A Thousand Threads.” Below that it reads, “Adult Fantasy | 100k words.” Belle that is the name, “Sadie A Lindgren.”

There is a turquoise background that fades to black in the lower right corner. The title of the page reads, “The Pitch.” There are gold swirls and flowers in the upper right corner. On the left there is a picture of a fancy, overly-tall bed. There is text in the center that says, “When the reclusive groundskeeper’s daughter is framed for an assassination attempt on the Prince, she escapes and returns disguised as a princess suitor in a scheme to clear her name and reclaim her quiet life. But the only person who can help her succeed is the devious pirate who framed her in the first place.”

There is a turquoise background that fades to black in the lower right corner. The title of the page reads, “The Details.” There are gold swirls and flowers in the upper right corner. On the right there is a picture of an old-fashioned ship. There is bullet-pointed text in the center that says, “Princess and the Pea retelling
Multi-POV
Autistic Female Protagonist
Romantic Subplot
Pirates and Royalty
Swedish folklore
1790s vibe
Natural Science-based magic system.”

There is a turquoise background that fades to black in the lower right corner. The title of the page reads, “The Comps.” There are gold swirls and flowers in the upper right corner. In the center are the 4 book covers of the following books: Lady Tremaine, Nettle & Bone, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries, A River Enchanted. There are arrows pointing to the various covers with text about how these titles connect to the manuscript in question including, “Fairy take retelling, Character-driven, Doomed quest, Whimsical humor, Neurodivergent FMC, Multi-POV, and Regional Folklore.”

Obscure inspiration for Foggy Dell: Phoenix Wright, There Is No Antimemetics Division, and lore from my hometown, which I’d rather not get into because I visit Ojai too often to risk offending any of the ghosts. #UnhingedPit #SFF #A #Q Below Maisie faces worse than a ghost: an unannounced visitor.

There are a lot of trees in Foggy Dell, including hazelnut, persimmon, redwoods, and of course, oaks. (Oaks also happen to be one of my favorites so I've included a few bonus pictures.) #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

Tremulous Oak Sanctuary perches on top of a hill dotted with—big surprise—oak trees. They even quiver as the wind gusts through their branches. As we pull up to the gate house, I jump out of the car, leaving Kate to wrap up her conversation with the driver. Or not. It would be perfectly fine, preferable actually, if she stayed to chat while I investigated.

A path leading into a grove of oak trees

Green grass and some oaks just beginning to get new leaves

A view overlooking a vineyard and some oak trees

Today's #WIPSnips word is "smell". This scene makes me regret not going on a walk this weekend. Maybe if I get enough words in this morning I'll have time for one later today. #WriteSky #WritingPrompts #WritingCommunity

“Where’re you going?” The ends of Kate’s scarf, the same deep green as the needles on the surrounding trees, flutter as she jogs to catch up to me.
I shrug, but the forest has captured my senses. The carpet of wood sorrel, the sounds of birds and a creek somewhere, the way my feet squelch on the wet ground, and the petrichor smell all pull at me. It’s almost enough to make me relax around my might-be-a-murderer-sister. I pause, hands on hips. “Go ahead. Lead the way.”
She stands there for a moment. “Actually, you’re going down the right path.”
I roll my eyes, and we continue on, falling into a comfortable pace. Kate’s umbrella swings by her side, a habit that she’s had since childhood. It reminds me of the first time she ran away.

NAUSICAÄ X FF7 Hana is sure she’s the chosen one, meant to save the world, even if her magic is resisting her and the previous chosen one insists she isn’t. Pursued by enemies, she must learn if this is her destiny or if it was a mystical mistake. #questpit #F #A #Q #agentguide

Dark forest. An agent's guide to The Blessing Returned. Adult fantasy. 98,000 words.

Dark forest. Pitch. Idealistic Hana Hahl lives in a world that is slowly dying after a failed quest to bring back magic. The only ones left with power are self-serving royals and dark mages, while desperation has given rise to an anti-magic order. Caught up in a mystical event, Hana is blessed with an immense power that could restore nature to the world. As Hana struggles to control the overwhelming force, Lady Kalyn Nossi, the only known survivor of the disastrous quest, directs her to the one person who can help her. Matthias Azel, the failed chosen one, reluctantly agrees to teach Hana while concealing his past from her. Accompanied by Kalyn and a charismatic prince with a dangerous secret, they journey to seek answers about Hana’s destiny. They fend off demonic threats and the anti-magic forces as Hana struggles with magic that seems to resist her and a growing fear that the world isn’t meant to be saved.

A dark forest. Snippet. She took a cautious step forward, unaware she was in a spectral form. Little drops of shimmering light followed her path, dissolving into the ground. “But this has to be a sign?” Grass grew where the light fell, delicate bits of nature that should be impossible. “Maybe it’s returning!”
The young woman spoke with such bright reverence as if life was a fairy tale and magic was all they needed for a happy ending. It was as if she couldn’t see the shadows approaching her. The inevitable death.
“Magic should never return.”
After speaking those words, he sprang forward and shoved her away from the shadows. Pain rocked him as soon as he touched her. The scorching mystical agony tore a scream out of him, but it kept her away from the unearthly menace, and the shock did what he intended.
Sent him back to his body.

A dark forest. Comps. Nausicaä. One Dark Window. The Starless Crown. Godkiller. Final Fantasy VII Remake. Tropes. Chosen One (s)? Ecofantasy. Dieselpunk. Grumpy/sunshine. 1930s vibes. Love triangle. LGBTQIA+ rep. Cynical mentor. Dying world. Found family.

I'm a couple days late, but I love mugs. It's difficult to pick a favorite from my collection, so here are the two that I'm using today and one of the 30 instances of the word in Foggy Dell. #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

No, no, no. I squeeze my eyes shut, bracing for a hand on my arm. An expression full of pity. Instructions to breathe more deeply. Shallow assurances that everything is fine. That I just need to sleep better. Eat better. Exercise. Lose weight. Go outside. Get a social life. Be better.

None of that happens. The water runs and then the electric kettle starts burbling. Cupboard doors clatter.

“Farthest right,” I say between breaths. They’re coming slower now.
Little puffs of sugar and cocoa fill the air as Stacy scoops hot chocolate powder into three mugs. She uncorks an elixir and adds a generous tablespoon to each cup. After a vigorous three seconds of stirring for each, she grabs the handles and turns to me. “You good?”

The first page of Foggy Dell opens with musing on procrastination, though EV's assessment of Maisie's inaction is missing a few details. #WriteSky #WIPSnips #WritingCommunity

I lurk in one of my usual shadows, the one cast by the street lamp on the corner of Fern Way and a looming hazelnut tree. From this angle, I have a clear view into Maisie Fletcher’s living room. “All clear.”
The words are meant to reassure. They should reassure me after her thorough search. But the alarm system in my brain blares on in perverse persistence, like that DJ at my cousin’s wedding that refused to play anything but EDM. Just because I caught the slightest movement out of the corner of my eye, my brain is convinced that there’s something out there that will harm me. Brilliance Overland is a prodigy who craves answers and adventure. Her invention— latticed entanglement aperture passthroughs (LEAP)—opens a quantum-based wormhole to a world more advanced, yet far more backward than she imagined. With her best friend Annie, Brilliance enrolls at Avram Circle, the premier science academy in a system of interlinked worlds, hoping to unravel their origins. But in a place where every relationship is entangled, every truth is knotted with lies, and every discovery leads to deeper complexity, Brilliance finds that her will and scientific principles alone can’t untangle the mess.

Brilliance relies on Annie’s empathy to navigate the social brambles rooted in this new world, but as Brilliance buries her own “unproductive” feelings, Annie’s patience frays. When their friendship is tested, Brilliance must confront the tethers that bind her: Unspoken grief for her mother, whose voice and lessons echo as AI in her mind; the causal chains that connect her actions to unintended consequences; and the realization that even in a universe of infinite possibility, some bonds—of love, loss, and home—are impossible to sever.

To survive forces that want to control them, Brilliance must learn that true understanding isn’t just about unraveling mysteries, but about embracing the beautiful, messy tangle of relationships and the tethers that hold us together—even across worlds.

Themes:
- Quantum entanglement as a metaphor for the complexity and messiness of relationships, regardless of time or distance.
- Tethering as both a source of strength (home, love, memory) and a challenge (grief, responsibility, causality)
- The interplay between scientific genius and emotional intelligence
- The search for origins—of worlds, of self, of the bonds that shape us
