🇵🇱⚖️ The degree of hate that renowned Polish NGOs such as the Stefan Batory Foundation or Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights have received from xcore supporters of Tusk (the so-called "#strongetogether", in particular) has been absolutely disgraceful.

🇵🇱⚖️Sylwia Grzegorczyk-Abram is very well educated and suited for this job. She's also a very bad pick for this job. How's that possible? She flew too close to the radiant sun that is PM Tusk and his party. The ombudsman should project an aura of impartiality, and I fear that she's unable to do so. 1/

Meaningful inclusion of women in Poland’s democratic restoration remains strikingly absent. Pre-populist constitutional negligence of women’s rights paved the way, argue KATARZYNA ŁAKOMIEC and BARBARA GRABOWSKA-MOROZ, and draw lessons for Hungary. verfassungsblog.de/hungary-pola... @mpil.de
“The transition to the rule of law should mean that women are actors in the democratic transition and not simply subjects of new legal or political models.”

Judge swaps under scrutiny in Warsaw as EU adviser calls for clear rules
A quiet case reshuffle in Warsaw courts is now under EU scrutiny, with an adviser warning that judges can’t lose cases without clear rules, transparency and a real explanation.

With the minister being a (hiatus-ed) judge and the chair of a legislative commission drafting RoL reforms being a judge and judges filling the ranks at the ministry (at the expense of people hired by former MoJ Adam Bodnar), the boundary between the judiciary and executive is growing thin. 4/

The European Commission dropped its annual Rule of Law report on July 8 — there’s a lot to read and digest. The implementation stats aren’t exactly impressive but dig a little deeper and the picture gets more concerning. A few immediate reflections: 🧵 1/

🇵🇱⚖️🇪🇺 Easily lost in yesterday's news about the landmark CJEU Maltese golden passports judgment is AG Spielmann's opinion on the independence of Polish "neo-judges" in ordinary courts, which has potentially explosive consequences if the Court sides with the AG on this one. 1/

In opting for this solution, the Polish government has decided against an individual verification of each "neo-judge". This is a mistake, in my view, as I believe Poland is more than capable of reviewing those people in a reasonable time frame. 14/
