A few weeks ago, I reactivated my Facebook after 3 years for access to chat with my kid, and immediately realized why I left. Today is my birthday, and part of the reason I am sad is because all of the Facebook birthday messages mean i finally get how shallow my relationships with everyone were.

It's weird that I agreed with someone recently about beaches being too crowded over the Canada Day weekend, but disagreed that they were too busy because of "all of the immigrants?" Like, that's just a weird addition to the gripe about people "enjoying the sun" (ick) in a big public place, to me.

This whole thread. I always called it "the Watercooler Effect," and LOST or the X-Files would have tanked without it. Binge-watching is for reruns, shows that have their base (like the Office), not for new shows. Binging +spoiler culture makes it nearly impossible to speculate together.
