It's the only abramsverse Star Trek that never made me angry. That's worth a lot. It proved that the Abramsverse could produce something that actually felt like Star Trek.

The pattern playing out is consolidation of processing power into taller and taller individual models. Whether that ever meets agi or not doesn't matter. We will see models become more financially "centralized" in the hands of a few as they continue to improve and we need to get ahead of that.

Real sad to see gamers imagining a bunch of flashy drama and wrestling storyline around game development to explain why they didn't like some game. It's just office people doing office things. Don't get in a parasocial relationship with a business unit. The thing you hate was because of emails.

Most transphobia, or so it seems to me, is about wanting culturally contingent hierarchies and identity scripts to be Inscribed in Nature in some deep way that obviates the need for reflective examination, and getting very anxious and angry about anything that makes it clear that’s a fantasy.

"Flood Zone" as a term already means something. It's about low lying areas that are prone to flooding, or have a high chance of being impacted by theoretical future floods of broader origin. An "Inundation zone" is usually a precise measurement around a specific event or type of event.

The meat mountain was on an official but joke ad and people ordered it enough that corporate provided instructions. Otherwise it sounds like you're trying to ddifne categories in a pointless way. If someone says "secret menu" and you understand the nuance, then they communicated fine. Grow up.

Yes. Also to your main point, if a "complicated custom order" gets common enough that they all know it, that's "real" now. Just like "made up" words becoming real as soon as people generally know what they mean.

They don't have the votes, man. What do you want them to do? Midterms are the only viable move left.

What exactly would be eliminated? Would the constitution say "the president isn't allowed to write a letter to an executive agency head"? Like, what are you even talking about? How would you "eliminate" that exactly? I don't think you really are aware if you think this idea makes any sense at all.

Glux @glux.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
EOs are just the president giving formal instructions to agencies he's already legally in command of. That's it. They don't have actual power. They're not a "real thing" beyond the authority given to those agencies. But that also means eliminating them is pointless/impossible.

In this case, for instance, Sony would have needed to assign several people a long time ago to spend a few months collecting and organizing all of that information into one source, likely tasking them with producing new documentation in some areas, just to preserve a dead workflow. They'd never.

Part of the problem is: what exactly goes into the public record? I work with complex processes, and I've helped manufacturers design work flows before and you'd be amazed the stuff that's essentially never written down, and when it's gone it simply evaporates. Nothing exits to put in public record.

Theoretically you could print one sided battles that just say "when this dies, do thing". But that's kind of boring.

Literally doesn't matter. Wendy's said shrimp, and Americans have a picture of "shrimp" in their heads. Taxonomy doesn't matter here. Stop telling people how language works in their own fucking country.

Glux @glux.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
Cautiously, because this is clearly a UK/US language issue, but no. Those are tiny shrimp by US standards. In the US we have species of "actual shrimp" that are much larger than this, and they're what people expect when they hear shrimp. They're close in size to prawns served in Europe.

Watch it with a critical eye as an adult. The kids just mindlessly yell at each other in every scene. It's a *noisy* movie for no reason.

Glux @glux.bsky.social · 07/06/2026
Me too. The way they're just constantly screaming at each other. Multiple kids yelling at once for most of the runtime. Makes it miserable to watch.

Right but like, don't you want to save the oil and gas for only the things that don't have an alternative? Rather than frivolously blowing them on areas where decent alternatives exist? If we can get the low hanging fruit, we buy the tougher stuff a longer timeline to figure out.

What if, with no other options, the Republicans essentially bow out and hand it over in 2028, ensuring a boring centrist, then start loudly arguing that doing so already was the reconciliation, so any trials and accountability are just bullying, you see. Then the centrist dem in office does nothing.

It's quite easy to find that abhorrent and still not believe our system to be infallible. Life without parole is fine. It does the job and it acknowledges that the government isn't perfect. Also super weird that all the folks who hate the government think it never makes a mistake in this *one area*

It was always real life. Everything we do changes our brains and establishes norms. Saying it back then was delusional all along.

The ones that understand it just think that some other rich person, down the road at some point, will cave first and do the placating for them. It's the same can-kicking instinct as with climate change.

If the situation was misrepresented to investors, or potential investors, then there's a route to fraud. A civil case from an investor seems easiest though.

He's taking the idea of "some people are just failures and the welfare state props them up instead of letting them die in a gutter" and is extending it to race. He's saying that entire races have "failed" and should be allowed to die.

The biggest form of political correctness in America is that basically every single conservative commentator is a gutter bigot and it's just universally understood that it's beyond the pale to ever acknowledge that.

Growing up in the 90s, I was told constantly by literally every adult that life is about sucking it up and doing what you have to do to make money. It's not shocking that some people listened to that.

Legally sure, but the president has enough authority to just... stop abiding by literally every part of the alliance, and the only check is congress deciding whether or not to remove him for doing so, which they won't. So de facto legal.
000
Glux @glux.bsky.social · 01/04/2026
Eh, we've set it up so the president is just a normal private citizen who isn't special. If they personally go sit in the gallery as a regular person without special treatment, that doesn't seem wrong at all. As much as we know he personally did it to grandstand.

They won't start with banning birth control. First they'll lie about it. Then dictate who can prescribe it, use it, fund it, in what forms, and for how long. Suddenly, your doctor won't call you back. I know this is what they'll do because it's what they're doing to transgender healthcare right now.

It has an uphill fight, but the path behind us is already paved with the chips taken out of the constitution thus far. The founders would barely recognize the twisted mutant right to assemble that we currently "enjoy".

That's what overtopping looks like. It's a safe red district that accidentally stirred in too many democrats. Then when the wind blew just right, the water overtopped the compartment 57/43. It's exactly what failing gerrymandering is going to look like.
