J.P. Morgan calculated that, given the cost of building & maintaining infrastructure, AI needed to generate $600+ Billion annual revenue to be profitable for investors. Which is equivalent to selling a $35/mo subscription to every smartphone user on the planet. In other words, this is not enough.

Huh. I wonder if anyone can find a poll like this for prior years, because absent contrary data, it seems like this'd be mass disillusionment among Conservative voters. Which is rad, and also, yes I agree they should sit with their thoughts and prior actions for... a while.

Democrats are more enthusiastic about voting than Republicans

Less than a month before the final midterm votes are cast, the poll finds that Democratic voters are more motivated to vote.

Overall, about two-thirds of registered voters say it’s “extremely” important to vote in the upcoming election, while about 2 in 10 say it’s “very” important.

But about three-quarters of Democratic voters say that voting in this November’s midterm elections is “extremely” important, compared with roughly 6 in 10 Republicans.

I've been holding off on digging too deep into this one until it left early access. Really fun from the bit I've played so far. It's much more of a co-op action RPG that just happens to be set in a (hand-crafted) deformable sandbox world. There's no survival mechanics unless you play on Very hard.

You'd be surprised at how minimally modified some internal engines are. None of them start all that branched off, they just get that way after a decade or two.

Yes, because you eventually need to hard couple things into it. Happens during porting, if you're using any C++ plugins, due to those being DLLs. There's increasing pressure to go "eh, you know, maybe I should just ditch the addon entirely if I gotta integrate it into the console port anyways."

Maybe, but it comes down to what a specialized engine looks like. Are you a studio that makes ganes of a fixed style and genre? Then yeah, Bevy as a foundation maybe. But if you're varied? You sorta Do need a general engine 😭. And Godot at least strikes a balance by being a "thin" general engine.

There's straight up a Switch engine port you get access to if you're a registered Nintendo dev (and the devs pushing that seem to keep it within a major version or two of head, no less) Other platforms, no idea, but uh, we have no plans of supporting them at this point anyways so, yay

I can at least now firmly recommend Godot as a foundation for a custom engine. I'm preeettty sure I can also recommend it as a ready to go engine to simply pivot to (I'm having a lovely time) but i think team size, makeup (aka helps if you're techier) and desired platforms are still tied up in that

Like I'm not saying vibe coded games aren't garbage that's gumming stuff up, just, they're functionally just more asset flips. They're washing up against the markets, finding zero takers, and washing back out. Steam algorithms are actually great at making sure absolutely nobody sees most of them.
