I don’t know if I’ll like Al Doyle’s record, but I like what he has to say about it:

“The world doesn’t need an Al Doyle solo record. It’s not the last thing we need, but it’d be in the bottom quarter somewhere; below universal healthcare, above a new Simply Red record. But if I did everything according to what the world needs I wouldn’t get much done; it’s just not my
skillset. I’m more a microphone-choosing, volume-adjusting, cocktail-drinking kinda guy. Then again, if you go into the studio every day, and noodle about with ystuff enough, eventually you’re gonna come up with an album, and that’s pretty much what happened.

A solo record is a weird choice for a man in his mid-40s. It’s like I needed this much time to find the confidence to ignore what anyone might think about me making such a narcissistic move. I did want folks to have fun listening to it though. It’s not difficult music; there’s a bunch of guitar/bass/drum arrangements, a lot of synths and drum machines too. Basically exactly what you’d expect me to make, having been in the bands I’ve been in. And in a way the record is a thank you to all the masterful musicians I’ve stolen from over the last many years; this is the result of many hands. Nothing happens in a vacuum that doesn’t suck.” — Al Doyle

Such an incredible single. In a minority here, but I would much rather just look once go to see Orbital do a gig where it was the non-bangers - stuff off Snivilisation, In Sides etc than the same hands-in-the air set they've been touring forever. Which doesn't include Forever.

Cory is always worth reading, but this is a particularly enlightening on stories about AI / chat bots “going rogue” (TLDR the scare stories are over played to quite a degree & it’s in the interests of the tech companies to over play them)

my worst nightmare is being an olympic judge after they let xenomorphs compete. draping a medal over a xenomorph’s hideous head while they hiss at me, inches from my face, only for a second head to come out their tooth-filled maw… and i have to drape another tiny medal over it
