2026 is running at least 1.1C warmer than any other year at least on record. Note all of the top 10 warmest are within last 23 years in near 80 year record at LHR. #climate #London (2/2)

Excellent use of FoI by @guyshrubsole.bsky.social reveals some large discrepancies in the so-called 'official' statistics on Pheasant rear & release in England. What? The UK gamebird shooting industry not complying with the law? Shurely shome mishtake. raptorpersecutionuk.org/2026/09/21/r...

She's spent her life coming to terms with understanding, correctly, that all sheep are entirely identical. It's what they are known for, after all. As evidenced by the plural being the same as the singular. 'The best sheep ever'? No wonder she's confused.

One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

English wineries battle ‘severe’ frost
Winemakers across England are counting the cost of serious frosts, which have struck many regions repeatedly in recent weeks at a critical period for budburst. Gabriel Stone reports.

Absolutely. The rise of micropubs and brewery tap rooms shows that people might want something slightly different but they *do* want community spaces. Also there are many reasons a pub might close that are nothing to do with popularity. Very little broader thought from some commenters here.

Just in case anyone is still unsure. Of the 12 hottest days in the UK Just 2 were in 20thC Whilst 10 have been in 21stC 2 (inc. the highest) were in 2022 3 have been *THIS YEAR* So 5 of the top 12 have been in the last 5 years Oh.. and NONE were in 1976
A screenshot from Wikipedia of a list of the top 12 hottest days recorded in the UK giving the place they were recorded and the temperatures in degrees Celsius.

Reform ordered Kent councillors to sing the national anthem. The Greens found a very funny loophole
Reform ordered Kent council meetings to end with God Save the King, only for Green councillors to arrive with all six verses and exploit an obvious loophole.

Not a fair comparison. It takes half as long become it's half the distance. Minster is 75 miles from Charing Cross, Guilford is 35 miles. Also Surrey is a traffic clogged hellhole 🤣

Kent (my home county) has always been a strange, transient place given its position between London and Europe. It is essentially a corridor county with a huge historical defensive role. So many people pass through Kent that those that call it home can be inclined to feel resentful and insular.

This is still happening. There has been an influx of Londoners who can no longer afford to live in London and councils rehoming tenants in Kent and Essex. These people are Londoners but many locals will see them as migrants. Quite depressing as most locals are post-war London 'emigres' themselves.
