Tastiest apple ever! From a box of free apples in Sheffield... but what a surprise when Rob bit into it to see such red coloured flesh Could be Bloody Ploughman, or perhaps Kissabel? We've saved the seeds so maybe one day we'll have a harvest of our own 🍎

Up and out the door at 7:30am for a little spin to one of my favourite local birding greenspaces. #irlam #littlewooldenmoss Highlights two jays also reed bunting, pied wagtail, pheasant, jackdaws, long tails, wren, and some big brown game birds in a field. Have a lovely day everyone.

"Essence of Redstart". I revisited this as it's the best fit I have for #BirdsInAbstract, today's #BirdOfTheDay theme from @helenbennett.bsky.social #UKwildlife #birds
A motion blurred image of the underside of a redstart taking off. The bright orange-red tail is spread in a fan shape, the breast is whitish, and the brown wings are almost furled. The head is not visible. The effect is an impressionist, almost abstract, depiction of energy and motion.

A visitor to my Little Leo sunflower in the yard. I think it’s a Hornet Mimic Hoverfly, UK’s largest hoverfly. Usually found down south, but maybe climate change has brought it to Manchester. An important pollinator & also eats aphids. Delighted to have it fly by.

What were your #Top5Birds or bird moments from the past week? Mine, in Suffolk: 1. Hoopoe! A fleeting view but, Wow! 2. Spotting an Artic Skua from the shore 3. Beautiful Roseate Tern at #Minsmere 4. Cute Shelduck chicks looking like humbugs 5. Surprise Little Owl! 🪶
Square graphic design. Pale mint green with greyish blue wavy-edged bands at top and bottom.

Portrait format photo on the middle left of a Hoopoe - a pinky-brown bird with black and white wings. It has a long, slightly down-curved bill and striking crest which is shown in the resting state in the photo. The bird is facing to the right of the frame and is perched on rooftop. The background is blue sky.

Caption below the photo reads: Hoopoe

Text on the right reads: #Top5Birds What were your best bird moments from the past week?
