Very important proposal for bus signal priority in Vancouver by Mayoral hopeful @wazaroff.bsky.social running for @onecityvan.bsky.social. Transportation equity means prioritizing transit that’s moving a LOT more people in a lot less space. That’s ironically better for EVERYONE, including drivers.

Just your regular reminder that John Howard never pushed back against Pauline Hanson and One Nation policies. He embraced them, which is how he outflanked them, while also setting the stage for what the Liberals are today. The myth that he 'pushed back' truly needs to die.

After Bondi, calls for a Royal Commission appeared overnight, delivered by rotating groups using identical language. That is astroturfing, a PR tactic that simulates grassroots demand to manufacture urgency, crowd out scrutiny, and lock in policy before evidence is tested. More on YT

Any #RoyalCommission looking at what happened at Bondi would, of course, need to wait until after all legal proceedings involving the surviving shooter have finished (so as not to prejudice them). In other words, no #RoyalCommissionNOW #auspol 4/

If there is to a #RoyalCommission then it should either be: . very narrow (looking at failures of laws, their enforcement, and security intelligence) or . very broad (looking at biases and hatred against all racial and religious minorities). #auspol 3/

The Bondi shooting was a tragedy and needs a sympathetic response to the people affected. However, a range of actors are milking it for their own political gain - at the expense of the broader Jewish and non-Jewish community. 1/ #Bondi #RoyalCommission #auspol

Correct, the criminal trial needs to be concluded before an RC so the criminal trial isn't prejudiced. We know from experience, high profile criminal trials take years. The recommendations groom an RC would be years away.

You have to give credit to the pro-Israel lobby. They’ve managed to push murder of non-Jewish civilians by Israeli soldiers & settlers off the front pages of our legacy media. If we must have a RC let’s cover the causes and correctives needed for all the “anti-isms” & phobias poisoning our society.

This is devastating to read. What a failure of public health. And yet many (most) don't want to hear that COVID is airborne and that they might have to change how they live. And so, they keep getting infected over and over again. We need clean air, free testing, + anti virals for all.

This is wild. A 22-year-old having COVID 9 times isn’t “normal” or acceptable. She washes her hands religiously, but COVID is airborne — Public health failed her. She had been healthy and happy for most of her life, but repeated infections have clearly taken a toll on her health and wellbeing.
Screenshot of a Reddit post from r/COVID19positive titled “I’ve gotten covid 9 times,” posted 9 hours ago by user JackfruitOpposite743, with a yellow label reading “Tested Positive – Long-Hauler.” The post is written by a 22-year-old woman who says she had been mostly healthy and happy for most of her life until starting college in 2021. Since then, she reports repeated illnesses including strep, bronchitis, mono, pneumonia, and COVID. She states she has had COVID nine times since 2021, with one infection progressing to pneumonia and requiring hospitalisation. She says she washes her hands religiously, avoids crowds, is vaccinated regularly, and experiences severe pain, body chills, exhaustion, and fear of going to crowded places. She asks for help, saying repeated infections feel like they are draining her body.

Revealed: Labor's offer to get Greens to back EPBC overhaul - Dan Jervis-Bardy

Guardian Australia has obtained the separate sets of concessions that the Albanese government is prepared to make to its nature laws to secure the Greens or the Coalition's support.

The proposed concessions to the Greens, circulated on Tuesday morning, include:
- Limiting the fast-tracking of fossil fuel projects under bioregional plans
- Limit the new "streamline assessment pathway" to restrict fossil fuel projects
- Limit the proposed new "national interest" exemption to exclude fossil fuel projects
- Reversing proposed changes that would have handed the so-called "water trigger" to state governments
- Require that the minister retain the power to declare that a project requires Commonwealth approval, even under deals to devolve decision-making powers to the states.
- Require that the states have agreements to assess projects under federal nature laws before allowing them to have power to make decisions under the laws

The government has also offered to subject native forest logging to national nvironmental standards within three years, although the detail of that amendment is still being worked through.

The Greens will no doubt discuss its position on the EPBC laws at their regular Tuesday morning party-room meeting although it's unclear if a final position will be settled.Screenshot from Guardian Australia's liveblog

Labor's offer to the Coalition to get it to back nature laws revealed - Dan Jervis-Bardy

As for the Coalition, the government has offered five concessions.

They include:
- So-called "stop-work" orders that halt projects can only be in place for a maximum of 14 days
- Clarify that maximum fines for breaches of nature laws ($1.6m for individuals, $825m for businesses) would only apply in the "most serious and egregious cases"
- Allow the minister to sack the chief executive of the independent environment protection agency (EPA) for poor performance.
- Allow the minister to set "directions" to the chief executive of the EPA
- Retain one of the existing project assessment pathways that requires proponents to submit "preliminary documentation" ahead of a decision.

The list of amendments does not include any changes to a new
"unacceptable impact" definition that would, if met, result in the immediate refusal of a project.

This is a slight variation on a long-running argument used by people in Australia against #ClimateActionNow, despite us having high per-capita climate-damaging emissions and being in the top 1-3 exporters of coal and gas for years. Sad to see the German chancellor using it too.
